Guest Dead?really? Posted September 26, 2006 Felt sorry for poor old Byron Nelson, with only 10 posts. So decided to look him up on Google images for all those people who haven't a clue what he looks like, Byron then...............and Byron now, pictured with his much younger wife Peggy. Any news on his health? Died today (26th Sept) .............. was the Tiger Woods of his era.

Gunjaman5000 30 Posted September 26, 2006 Also, this gets rid of another boring candidate so we can look forward to a more exciting one in 2007. By more exciting do you mean another sportsman in his ninties 50 years past retirement?
Octopus of Odstock 2,186 Posted September 26, 2006 By more exciting do you mean another sportsman in his ninties 50 years past retirement? No, I mean someone who keeps us on the edge of our seats, a la Pinter or Melly and not Nelson, Bergman and de Laurentiis..zzzzzzz The last three are so boring I nearly fell asleep writing the sentence

M.Lawrenson 11 Posted September 26, 2006 Is it true they'll be putting Byron in a spherical coffin, and using a 50 foot putter to sink him in his grave? Maybe they've lined up the USA Ryder Cup Team to do it, if there's a week to spare...
football_fan 42 Posted September 26, 2006 We have our 8th graduate from the DL class of 2006 Byron Nelson
Tempus Fugit 214 Posted September 26, 2006 Byron was so dull I'd almost forgotten he was on the list. Oh well, fare ye well Byron. You may not have been "Mad, bad and dangerous to know" but you sure could putt a little white ball into a hole. Gone to the great 19th hole in the sky. Octopus of Odstock 2,186 Posted September 27, 2006 my moneys on Gerald Ford to be no 9 ! Yes, yes, Iain, I'm sure it is. Keep taking the medication. Also nice to see that not only were you hours late with the "annoucement" but you couldn't even spell his name right
Windsor 2,233 Posted September 27, 2006 By the way... Byron Nelson was the 8th hit of deathlist 2006. He is the 145th hit since 1987. The 2006 list is now in 11th place shared with 1998 out of a possible 20 deathlists. Just thought I'd share that.
CarolAnn 926 Posted September 27, 2006 Byron Nelson's tournament raised over $90M for charity during his lifetime. I hope it can soldier on now that he's gone, but I wonder what the lack of those hand-written invitations to play with do to participation.
