The Pooka 26 Posted March 3, 2006 Do you still have it? Does anyone still have a crackerjack pencil?? Surely an esoteric memorabilium more potent than Proust's madeleine. Unless you know of better...... (Does this qualify for DL's Pseud's Corner?)

(Does this qualify for DL's Pseud's Corner?) sadly can't find any on Ebay, but lots of bluepeter badges, including an "I vandalised the bluepeter garden" stick pin. maryportfuncity 10,647 Posted March 5, 2006 The following is a quote loaded sometime around September 05 on this site. i have just completed some work at Brinsworth House, and spoke to Richard O`Sullivan for about an hour, it is true he had a mild stroke, but all other stories are untrue, he was really nice and made me a coffee, he said he has been offered parts on tv but will wait a while. really nice guy looks no different apart from grey hair.all the best mate see you soon CP, I for one appreciate the quality of your work hereabouts, don't let things get to you! Canadian Paul 97 Posted March 6, 2006 The threads sink to the bottom when you can no longer be bothered to post. However, I am glad that you accept my contention that these threads become nonsense. You then become bored and post nonsense on another thread. Dickie's longevity annoys you becauseyou have no control over it. Accept that. And then relax. Dickie's longevity annoys me because I expect better of Deathlist but whatever. I don't spend much time thinking about threads that I only post in to agree with others that it shouldn't be posted in. I'm a man who enjoys good irony.

maryportfuncity 10,647 Posted March 6, 2006 The link is higher up this thread. The problem with posting links on Dickie O's thread is the tonnage of posts that swamp them quickly. Try cutting and pasting the following which will lead you to Dickie O's page on the Where Are They Now section of the Bored Students web site: http://www.boredatuni.com/wht_found.php?whtId=

maryportfuncity 10,647 Posted March 7, 2006 Surprising indeed, I did try and post on their site leading them here, figured we'd get a few well read types who'd keep the witty and informed posts coming.

Is that well read as in books without pictures ? or Well red as in alcoholic ?
maryportfuncity 10,647 Posted March 8, 2006 The first one although where students are concerned I guess both apply. Good weed reddens your eyes faster than alcohol.
maryportfuncity 10,647 Posted March 9, 2006 Instead of pruning it we could get back on topic. I was surprised by the eye-witness report of him being so healthy and chatty in 2005. How many experts on strokes and depressive illness do we number in our membership? How realistic is it that a guy 60 odd can continue to recover back to health good enough to 'work' again as an actor?

The Pooka 26 Posted March 11, 2006 Instead of pruning it we could get back on topic. I was surprised by the eye-witness report of him being so healthy and chatty in 2005. How many experts on strokes and depressive illness do we number in our membership? How realistic is it that a guy 60 odd can continue to recover back to health good enough to 'work' again as an actor? The stroke (or cerebro-vascular accident) may have wide-ranging effects. In short a haemorrhage, embolism or thrombus cuts off the blood supply to part of the brain and its tissue is destroyed. The narrower the vessel occluded the less, by and large, damage is caused. So the effect of Dickie's stroke is determined by its location and size. To complicate this further, people can recover function over time. This may have occurred in our hero's case. Finally the stroke seems to have occurred in a context of multiple long-term and acute physical and mental health problems. These may also resolve over time. This would also explain Dickie's surprisingly chipper presentation when encountered by our informant. God bless him for his pluck. PS I don't suppose anyone's heard anything of Tessa Wyatt have they? The Pooka 26 Posted March 11, 2006 Where is his son, Jamie wasn't it? Does he visit him, I think it's disgusting that people get forgotten about, I didn't even know he was married twice, but never married to Tessa Wyatt and are there anymore Dicky O kids out there? It's a shame this wonderful thing called the internet has so many pages of useless idiot websites, but no Dicky O, it's shocking. I say if he is well enough, get him on a reality tv show or something, get him out of that waiting room they call Brinsworth House. Anyone gonna hatch a kidnap plan? I suspect that a number of internationally renowned directors are waiting for the final episode to play out at Brinsworth before filming his life story. However, the evidence seen recently suggests that they may have to wait a long time or consider a two-parter. If your kidnap goes ahead it would be well worth plagiarising the plot of Raid on Entebbe for part two. Queenie, please let me know if I can assist in his release in any way that is legal. The Pooka 26 Posted March 11, 2006 Duty Free was particularly dire. A piece of work for which Baron has yet to be brought before the people's court. There was also a 70s Leslie Crowther vehicle, 'My Good Woman' or something like that, which must have been as bad as any I've seen...... though the audience seemed pre-orgasmic with mirth. Next to this shower Dickie could have been Buster Keaton (only funny).
maryportfuncity 10,647 Posted March 12, 2006 The other bloke singing 'Underneath the Arches' was Dickie Henderson. Is he still alive?
The Pooka 26 Posted March 12, 2006 Dickie Valentine..... a real post-war entertainer's name. Died in the 70s in a road crash. Crowther also had a serious road crash. He hosted Crackerjack with the late great Peter Glaze in the 60s. Did anyone here ever attend Crackerjack. The audience consisted almost entirely of brownies and cubs. A decade and a half later they were all voting for Thatcher....... bless 'em.
maryportfuncity 10,647 Posted March 12, 2006 After exhaustive research - ie 30 seconds on the imdb - I'm afraid I have to break it to you all that Dickie Henderson, once one of our most loved all round entertainers, is, like, dead. 22-09-85: cancer. Maybe they buried him underneath the arches!

Neither was in the slightest bit funny but only the former intended to be.
maryportfuncity 10,647 Posted March 13, 2006 He intended to be an 'all round entertainer' something I think translates as 'no real skills so I'll have to muddle through with a bit of everything.' Speaking of which, what are those non-entity excuses for entertainment Kenny Lynch and Anita Harris up to these days. So bad the pair of them I'd sooner watch re-runs of 'Robin's Nest', honest. maryportfuncity 10,647 Posted March 13, 2006 Was he actually a pin up, like David Essex and the like, did women's boyfriends and husbands, actually hate him, were they actually jealous? Yes; Jackie and Fab 208 would run pin ups of him along with the David Cassidy's and Bay City Rollers of this world. The more mentally challenged of my female school mates fancied him. My sister was very fond of Dickie - she used to refer to him as if he were a mate. I think his appeal was that his image was unchallenging, laddish but with a soft centre - the boy next door. He may still have that charm. Mind you my sister also adored Gary Puckett who sang 'Young girl get out of my mind; your kind of love is way out of line etc etc.' If only Gary Glitter had shown similar self-restraint.
