Stayin Alive 26 Posted April 9, 2004 I see from the Wiki, that she is a cousin of the actor Clive Dunn, no less. Perhaps a bit of family competitiveness might be triggered.
Earl Gloomy 7 Posted June 19, 2004 i heard somwhere, think it was the radio, that she was somewhat bitter about being brought back to Eastenders and being killed off shortly afterwards. What do u think to that??
Teddy 21 Posted June 20, 2004 I would have thought the opposite would be true. By being killed off, she never has to return to Walford again - surely a blessing rather than a curse Of course, it does mean we will all miss her classic carry-on style lines, especially 'Has anyone seen my Willie?' Whenever I heard that, I always had this weird image in my mind that she had escaped from the 'Lady Boys of Bangkok Retirement Home', and dementia had started to set in
Earl Gloomy 7 Posted June 20, 2004 Obsure thoughts Teddy, the reason why she was annoyed with be brought back and leaving soo soon was probably something to do with the fact that she was getting used to the high pay again
Teddy 21 Posted June 20, 2004 Someone should explain that she can't take it with her I'm sure if asked, she would say acting is all about the craft - but you are right, it probably all boils down to the money, although with repeat fees for all the reruns they show on BBC4, she should be rolling in it... I'm sure if she ever gets stuck, young Clive can help her out

Earl Gloomy 7 Posted July 18, 2004 Yes i am sad, i saw Gretchen Franklin in a 1980's episode of eastenders, called eastenders on holiday, on UK GOLD today. I think she looked older then than she does now.

It must be something in the family genes, as Clive Dunn certainly looks younger now than when he appeared in Dad's Army, and that was 30+ years ago!

Guest Dan Posted May 12, 2005 Anna Wing who used to play Lou Beale told June Brown aka Dot Cotton as she presented her with her lifetime achievement award at the Soap Awards last night on ITV1 that Ethel was not very well at the moment. Could be a sign of imminent demise!!
