Octopus of Odstock 2,187 Posted June 30, 2012 At last - Shamir has been a DDP pick of mine since 2006 - and whilst he had an aura of a cuddly Ewok about him due to his height and face, he was a nasty little bastard with a hell of a lot of blood on his hands, either as an activist, or during his Mossad years. I was thinking only the other day with the "famous handshakes" profiles on the BBC, how despite looking older than them both (and he was older than Sadat), he's long outlived Sadat and Begin in one featured picture in the profile. Well done DL, looks like Jaruzelski is a possibility for the next one in a relatively short time.
adrian0719 220 Posted June 30, 2012 Jesus, granted he was 96 and ill, but what a blindside for the 6th death... Never thought Hosni and Jaruzelski would outlive this guy.

Guest Guest Posted July 1, 2012 Maybe we're on a run of hated right wing prime ministers dying,in which case Maggie Thatcher could be next...
Banshees Scream 110 Posted July 1, 2012 The demise of Yitzhak Shamir has been in the cards forever and I've been waiting a very long time for this one of course. I like the chosen headline and the obituary is the truth.
Guest Guest Posted July 2, 2012 Wouldnt be surprised if Ariel Sharon went within months now. Callaghan and Heath died within 4 months of each other and Harold Wilson a nd Alec Douglas Home died within 5 months of each other. Wierd how these things often happen in bunches. BrunoBrimley 86 Posted July 2, 2012 I had known this was going to happen I was discussing it just last week with my compadre and I said to him as he ate his blintze, I said to him Yitzy will be dead by the time the Sabbath ends. He shook his head in disagreement and ordered more blintzes. He was a good man at a time when being good is frowned upon. Mercy was shown him as he had delightful eyebrows. I can only hope that in weeks and years to come he will remember that he is dead.

The Mad Hatter 1,092 Posted March 2, 2016 Seems to be a year for former prime ministers. Oooh, may I suggest former Dutch PM Piet de Jong (b. 3 April 1915) for consideration for the 2006 list?regards,Heinstill alive at 100 years old.

I suppose he's one of very few ex-PMs who saw combat in WWII.
