William Russell is still lending his talents to Doctor Who Audiobooks. On my original lists there were some notes but I struggled with the formatting and had to lose them.

Thanks for the summary msc.

Wendy Padbury was married to Melvyn Hayes from "It ain't half hot Mum"

As you will see most are still with us but there were two deaths in 2011.

I know this forum is awash with Doctor Who fans so please don't try and get into a canonical debate about who is and who isn't considered as a genuine companion and just see if there are any names here you might be thinking of for 2013.

Anyone who says Bonnie Langford automatically - It's just wishful thinking.

Enjoy

That's my next year's avatars sorted.

yes but that was posted in the context of him being a pop star. This was to recognise his role as an actor in Dr Who..Is it not possible to post the same persons death in 2 different places?

When I have re-watched the stories that featured Liz Shaw I felt she was a character who could really work alongside The Doctor and the characterisation in this series is much deeper. However the production team wanted a much more "Why Doctor?" character and so Jo Grant was born.

Shame about Caroline John.

When Time annotated my list he did suggest she was one to watch

Shame to read about Caroline John. She was the first attempt at a companion that wasn't just a screaming girlie. She was married to Geoffrey Beevers, who was briefly the Master in 1981...

Sad news about Caroline John - Liz Shaw was one of the best Who assistants.

Seeing as it seems she died in the first week of June, I'm surprised the news has only just broken.

Oh dear. I loved the Pertwee era of Dr Who. So sad when we lost Nick Courtney and Liz Sladen only last year :(

Bit of a shock for another companion to go so soon after Sarah Jane... I have never seen any Liz Shaw episodes though (before my time). As long as my beloved Ace doesn't die I'll be happy!

Technically I said she seemed to be on the mend, which I think most people thought she was!

Whereas Jean Marsh seems to be on the mend now.

You missed out David Brierly, who did the voice of K9 for one season after John Leeson quit. He died about 5 years ago

I did say that I wasn't going to get into the cannonical quibble but I decided not to include David Brierly because John Leeson is K-9.

I didn't include Hamish Wilson either.

Very sad. Blakes' 7 was my favourite SF series of all. I was a small child in the early 1980s and only really remember Series 4 but I finally saw the whole series a few years ago when the DVD boxed sets came out in Australia. Thanks for letting us know, Guest.

Mary Tamm, who played Romana opposite Tom Baker, has died.

That's sad :(. I wasn't aware she was ill :/

In under a year and a half, Doctor Who has lost the Brigadier, Sarah Jane Smith, Liz Shaw and now Romana 1.
