Predictor 1,018 Posted July 27, 2015 An article on, and interview with, Baby Peggy, or Diana Serra Cary, the last living silent movie actress wikipedia calls a "star": (Also some smaller bits about other silent movie actors) http://www.theguardian.com/film/2015/may/23/i-spent-most-of-my-life-as-a-nobody-the-last-of-the-silent-movie-stars One of the most interesting bits in the article is this quote - "Cary has been in hospital twice since Christmas, with pneumonia. “I haven’t really got much time left,” she says." I'd take that quote with a grain of salt. One of the other people mentioned in the article, Lassie Lou Ahern, claims that the journalist twisted her words: June 18, 2015: "Hi, my dear fans & friends! I hope you are all well & happy. I have a situation that bothers me and I think I need to clear the air. I have had several interviews in the last few weeks with both magazines and newspapers which have reported things that are not correct. For one interview I was told they were interested in my career and the 1920's. It was an interview I was looking forward to doing. We had a phone interview and talked about 30 minutes from the making of my first movie, "The Call of the Wild" at 18 months old right into Our Gang and getting into feature films, etc. Well, this is the problem... he asked me how I felt. I replied, "Well, I'll be 95 years old the 25th of June. I use a walker and I have arthritis. I have a muscle in my left eye lid that closed while I was driving one day, but all it took was proper medicine and a prism in my glasses to correct the problem...and in fact my vision is quite good. I read a lot without glasses. The reporter said, "One day when she was driving her left eye just dropped out." I said, "My eye lid closed." He also said I was ailing. I just had to let you all know that I am not running around with a hole in my face or feeble either. My heart beats like a bongo drum & my breathing astonishes myself & the doctor. My only problem is that I will be 95 years old June 25. Wow!! I can not believe it! Love to all! LASSIE LOU AHERN

Here's an updated list: Silent survivors: Mary Carlisle (b. Feb 1914) First role: 1923's "Long Live the King" Shep Houghton (b. Jun 1914) First role: 1927's "Underworld" Fay McKenzie (b. Jul 1910) Appeared in 1929's "The Veiled Woman". The entire movie was shot in sound, though it may have been released in some movies without the sound playing because it was still a new technology by that point. Nanette Fabray (b. Oct 1920) Denied in an interview that she had ever appeared in a silent movie despite rumours persisting she had. Gloria DeHaven (b. Jul 1925) Appeared in a 1936 feature called "Modern Times" which is commonly referred to as "the last silent film" but was produced entirely in mono and made after the silent era.
