He is best known for the song, "When a Man Loves a Woman", a number one hit on both the Billboard Hot 100 and R&B Singles, in 1967. Percy was a 2005 inductee in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Rosa Singleton Sledge. His funeral April 21st will be broadcast in HD live via streaming on the internet at www.percysledge.org. As well as gratuitously taking any opportunity to pun, I hope to choose a person of interest who may have some intellectual and educational value for the DL cognoscenti. I therefore felt Simone De Beauvior as a giant in existential philosophy warranted a mention over an actor who was famous for being a straight man to a camp comedian and making endless pussy jokes.
