Your shocking spelling of Caesar led me to puzzle as to what the years would have been called at the time of his reign as obviously BC and AD must be a later change as no one recognised Christ as Christ when he was born. The answer is he became Caesar in AUC 727 and would therefore have died in AUC 767. AUC stands for Ab Urbe Condita which means 'From the founding of the city', the city being Rome obviously. If the name of the years had not been changed we would now be in AUD 2773 and would never have had to worry unnecessarily about the Millennium Bug 20 years ago. So thanks - if you had spelled it Caesar correctly I would never have pondered and would remain ignorant.
time 8,581 Posted August 19, 2020 Its 125 years since the death of John Wesley Hardin, notorious old west outlaw & gunfighter, aged 42. He got in an argument with an El Paso lawman, John Selman Jr, and allegedly pistol-whipped him; the lawman's father, John Selman Sr. himself an old gunfighter, is said to have entered the saloon where Hardin was playing dice and shot him in the back of the head, adding three more shots, just to make sure (he was tried for murder, claiming self-defence; the trial ended with a hung jury, but Selman Sr. was himself killed before the retrial began). One hundred years later, Hardin's body was the subject of a graveside confrontation - his descendants wanted to exhume his remains to transport to Nixon, Texas, to be reinterred next to his first wife, while El Pasoans wanted him to stay where he was. The El Pasoans won.
