Has it ever been fully confirmed that he died while enjoying the "attentions" of a rather Reubenesque groupie at a sci-fi convention?

"Oh my god, I've killed Doctor Who!"

Apparently the fan in question was well known in those circles, so it should be a fairly easily verifiable story if true. There's lots of Dr Who behind the scenes rumours though.

This one will be remembered in 10 Downing Street today; it's 35 years since the death of Enid Bagnold aged 91, author of National Velvet and Great Grandmother of Samantha Cameron.

123.jpg

No man is an island,

Entire of itself,

Every man is a piece of the continent,

A part of the main.

If a clod be washed away by the sea,

Europe is the less.

As well as if a promontory were.

As well as if a manor of thy friend's

Or of thine own were:

Any man's death diminishes me,

Because I am involved in mankind,

And therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls;

It tolls for thee.

March 31:

Knute Rockne - 85 years

Jeffrey Lee Pierce - 20 years

Pierce is terribly underrate; and not sure why, but I was thinking about him and his music a couple days ago. Odd.

Anyway, we share a birthday.

Giorgio Chinaglia died today in 2012.

Giorgio+Chinaglia+Panini+Italie+WM74.png

Arguably the greatest Welsh-Italian-American mob affiliate who wanted to play rugby not football in history. The best Chinaglia stories could fill a thread on their own, but special reference must go to him managing to make Pele run out of a dressing room crying and this tale from his apprenticeship at Swansea City:

when the club’s handyman asked him to help with a painting job, the young player picked up the paint tin and flung its contents against the wall of the stand.

The day should not pass without a mention of Thomas Dadford Jr, one of Wolverhampton's finest, who died 115 years ago aged 40. He was a canal pioneer and whilst no photos of him exist here's one of his aqueducts.

175 years since William Henry Harrison gave up on the Presidency of the US after 34 days aged 68. He contracted pneumonia at his inauguration. A lesson for us all folks - wrap up warm.
