Its 21 years since the death of Muriel Young, TV continuity announcer, presenter and producer, at the age of 77.

Her producing role was primarily concerned with teen pop-music programmes such as Lift Off, Shang-a-Lang and Get It Together (so we can thank her for the Roy North clips!) and she also devised children's film-review programme Clapperboard.

She retired from TV in 1986.

Joseph-Ignace Guillotin, who proposed the idea for the guillotine, died on this day 208 years ago, aged 75.

Anonymous - Portrait de Joseph-Ignace Guillotin (1738-1814), médecin et homme politique. - P1052 - Musée Carnavalet (cropped).jpg

Contrary to popular belief, he was not executed by the invention he inspired (nor did he actually invent the guillotine)- he died of a bacterial infection.
