TAFKAG 70 Posted December 15, 2008 The ex-chairman of Nasdaq makes Kenneth Lay look like a small-time crook, defrauding clients of $50bn. I expect he'll start suffering from 'Ernest Saunders Disease' as his trial approaches. He Madoff with the loot.
BCAlum2000 42 Posted March 13, 2009 With Bernie Madoff spending the rest of his life in prison, what do you think are the odds of him being done in by an inmate?
CarolAnn 926 Posted March 14, 2009 Madoff - if he lives long enough to be sentenced - will be in the country club that is federal prison for white collar criminals. He'll be fine.
Banshees Scream 110 Posted March 14, 2009 Madoff - if he lives long enough to be sentenced - will be in the country club that is federal prison for white collar criminals. He'll be fine. White collar prisons are very lenient. Bernie Madoff's prison might be similar to a hotel room along with catered food every night. I would imagine it's not much different from those retirement homes that seniors are placed in.

I would imagine it's not much different from those retirement homes that seniors are placed in. There really is no such thing as white collar "country club" federal prisons. With that said, Banshee Screams is right in that white collar criminals generally are placed in "nicer" facilities. White collar criminals generally are placed in minimum security federal prisons. The differences between these and higher level security facilities are these: the prison cells resemble dorm rooms more than actual prison cells. There are less prison guards roaming these facilities. White collar criminals have more freedom -- that is, they are not confined to their cells 23 hours a day. Respect yer elders bitch. Anyway, I wouldn't mind if Bernie received the death penalty. Does anyone share the same thought? Wouldn't it set an example? Even if Bernie is never executed, it would make people think. The greedy minds would change their minds. Once people start changing their minds, the world will change too. I think that sums it up. Comparatively speaking, you're right. But to call Federal prison camps (e.g., federal minimum security prisons) "resorts" is still stretching it. At best, the federal minimum security places are like heavily guarded college dorms, but with none of the fun (no loose women, much yuckier food, etc.). Far from the myth that is "white collar club fed resort."

I'm against the death penalty on general principle but even I can acknowledge that in some cases it would constitute justice. That being said, to suggest that someone who steals money should be executed is really silly. I'm not trying to minimize the seriousness of Bernie's crime, just suggesting that capital punishment for a Ponzi scheme is ridiculous. The comparative luxury of the facilities that deal with less violent offenders has more to do with the company they keep than any attempt by the authorities to make things better for "white collar" inmates. At the age of 71, I somehow think that a 150 year sentence is a tad excessive. Even 20 years would probably finish him off.

What, you mean you wouldn't be completely and utterly shocked to the core if you were to find out that the above suggestion might not be entirely true?? No need to brace yourself for this earth shattering revelation then : "We can tell you that Bernie Madoff is not terminally ill and has not been diagnosed with cancer," the Prisons Bureau said in an emailed statement. death_master_bob 0 Posted December 11, 2010 Bernie Madoff's son, Mark Madoff, has committed suicide by hanging. That's like really sad and everything. At least hanukkah was early ths year and he waited until it was finished with so it wasn't all spoiled. (the Madoffs are Jewish) Will they let his dad out for the funeral?
