themaninblack 2,112 Posted August 12, 2010 Do we get to choose which MIDI starts playing automatically when the site loads or do will you be selecting that yourself? That's expecting far too much from someone of my meagre knowledge of HTML! I've been looking around for some inspiration on the new layout. How about something like this? There'll be no pussy on my site...

Here's a handy if not altogether polite guide to the use of apostrophes:
themaninblack 2,112 Posted August 26, 2010 Actually I have another problem when it comes to using grammar on the DDP. There's a lot on inconsistency in the use of quotation marks and apostrophies in the various biogs (and I'm as gulity as anybody). For example, there are many candiadates from Star Trek on the list. Or should be "Star Trek", or 'Star Trek' or indeed Star Trek? Indeed, when using " ", if it's coming to the end of a sentence and it is not a direct quote, should the full stop be after the closing quotation or not? In what instances should "", ' ' and the like be used? Any thoughts?

DevonDeathTrip 2,386 Posted August 26, 2010 The death of Edwin Morgan means that Jack Ramsay and Shih Ming Teh are the only men left standing from my cup winning 2008 DDP team. I know the competition ends at the end of the year, but it has been nice keeping an eye on the former prodigies from my squad, watching most of them go on to achieve what I knew they were all capable of, even if they didn't manage to find the back of the net while playing for me. I was wondering if any team entered in DDP history has ever eventually achieved the clean sweep?
Windsor 2,283 Posted August 26, 2010 I need five from 2006 - thats the closest I come to a clean sweep. Norodom Sihanouk, Anna Wing, Ronnie Biggs, Rev. Billy Graham, Zsa Zsa Gabor.

Incidentially, I've just now made a correction to an error in the 2007 scoring, no bearing on the winner so no one should sweat.. I Smell Dead People has been moved up to =54th place with 42 points and 5 hits. Big John Duskin was inexplicably missed out...

No need to check mine TMIB > long way off finishing a DDP team ('06 & '07 both still need 7 deaths)
themaninblack 2,112 Posted August 28, 2010 Of Deathlist.net's debut triumph in 2004, just Biggs and Brady are left. Three left from Fallen Sparrow's win in 2005... (incidentially Fallen Sparrow would have garnered 84 points had the current scoring rules been used)

themaninblack 2,112 Posted August 31, 2010 Does Fignon's death put OoO in the lead? I think it does. I think it does too, as Grobler and Misers and We Spin Terror didn't have him... Is that the first time OoO's taken the lead? And with 4 months left, can he dream of the big prize? Ironic if he did win...

Not the first time, no - I lead - very briefly in April 2005 but then Pope JPII died and those with jokers overtook me. But that's a long 5 and-a-half-years ago now. I would be slightly embarassed to win it as I did enter my team early & fairly, but I could understand that other DDP'rs might think otherwise. I am very surprised I'm leading though. Here we go. The mysterious one returns... So that's who Rot In Hell John is? No wonder he's doing so well. Well if the man himself confirms it, then the history bit would need adjusting... EDIT: It will need adjusting but not for John's A Legendary Doughnut, so that rules out TF (unless he did two teams, which is not beyond the realms of possibility)

Windsor 2,283 Posted September 1, 2010 Raymond Hewlett died in April according to the Sun. Does that help anyone? Yes it does because the assumption was that he died last year! This suggests that he died in December/January though...it's not impossible that the Sun are confusing his actual date of death with the date his death was made public...
