Rotten Ali 600 Posted January 27, 2010 Gary Coleman leaving jail in a wheelchair. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/artic...sted-again.html what I would like to know... did Gary really have a kidney transplant or not? if so, is it that his body is rejecting them? PS I think he needs his own thread now. [Your wish is my command -- MH]
Rotten Ali 600 Posted February 3, 2010 Well done MH for starting this thread. Just did a bit more digging. Said that Gary has been a two-time recipient kidney transplant patient. Now it's my understanding that it's harder to make a good tissue match with black people since their DNA is more kind of mixed-up and diverse. Now even if he has had two transplants, that's soon going to be no better than having a single good one if he continues to drink to any degree. Also found an interesting item: Cut and paste from "www.evilbeetgossip.film.com" Have you guys heard this? This is crazy. So you know how Gary Coleman went to jail last week for a misdemeanour failure to appear warrant? OK, so he was basically rotting away in jail for a week while his mugshot was making rounds on the web. This mugshot has been everywhere and it’s quite scary and sad. So much so that one Utah business man decided he couldn’t bare the thought of the Diff’rent Strokes actor sitting in a cell anymore and he fronted his bail. Yup, Gary Coleman’s bail was paid by a fan. He even offered the actor a ride home from jail. Jarrod Clarke of Draper, Utah told Gossip Cop why he decided to throw down the funds to release Gary: “If you see his mugshot, I mean, what a sad face… To see that he was sitting in there – and he’d been there for 27 hours – and bail was only $1,700, I thought somebody probably ought to do something.” Gary’s wife immediately called Jarrod to thank him for his generosity and Gary’s back at home awaiting his next court date. There are a whole list of reasons why this story is beyond sad (why the hell doesn’t Gary Coleman have a measly 17 hundred bucks? Why wouldn’t his wife bail him out?), but let’s just hope that it turns out OK for Jarrod. The guy put himself on the line for someone he grew up loving on TV and if Gary doesn’t show up to his court date, that would be a huge slap in the face. Rotten Ali 600 Posted February 3, 2010 Oh and his Wiki page says: He suffers from a congenital kidney disease causing focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (an autoimmune destruction and alteration of the kidney), which halted his growth at an early age, leading to a small stature (4 ft 8 in; 1.42 m). He has undergone two kidney transplants, one in 1973 and one in 1984, and requires daily dialysis. Question I have still. Was the second opperation a removal of the first transplant? or was it his second original one out swap? Guess he will never be off anti rejection drugs, and they must have a toll in other ways too. IANA physician and that medical jargon doesn't mean much to me, so take the following with the obligatory grain of NaCl. If our hero needs dialysis daily, it means that his kidneys don't do enough work, if anything at all. It seems to me those two transplants didn't do much good, whether the second transplant replaced the first one or the second original kidney. Anti-rejection drugs generally work by suppressing the immune system. This implies that the patient becomes more vulnerable to microbial and viral infections. As a result he may become ill from infections that in healthy people cause no or few symptoms. he also is more likely to die from more serious infections. To make matters worse, dialysis can be a pathway into the body for such infections. That said, while his quality of life is diminished, such a regime can keep him alive for a long time. regards, Hein

Garn2 34 Posted May 28, 2010 Many now reporting he's on life support and in a coma. The 4ft 8in actor was said to have undergone emergency surgery on arrival. But Alcantar dismissed these reports, claiming his client was too sick for surgery. 'At this critical moment, we can only ask for your thoughts and prayers for Gary to make a speedy and full recovery,' he said. Doesn't sound good.
