Davey Jones' Locker 1,324 Posted December 26, 2011 A celebrity chef has quite literally been roasted this Christmas: Celebrity chef fighting for life after fatal house fire Amy Remeikis December 26, 2011 - 4:12PM A man, understood to be celebrity chef Matt Golinski, has been flown to hospital in a critical but stable condition after a house fire on the Sunshine Coast which claimed the lives of four people. The four people who died in the blaze are believed to be his wife Rachel Golinski and his three daughters - Sage, Willow and Starlia. Neighbours on Jacaranda Place in Tewantin told reporters they woke to the sound of screams about 3.30am and found a badly burned man lying outside his home, with the blaze too intense to attempt a rescue. The house was completely destroyed by the fire. Mr Golinski is a well known and popular personality on the Sunshine Coast, having worked as the executive chef at the renowned restaurant Ricky Ricardo’s in Noosa before starting his own catering company. He also featured on Network Ten’s cooking show, Ready, Steady, Cook. He was flown to Royal Brisbane Hospital after the early morning fire with third-degree burns to 40 per cent of his body. [snip] The neighbour told reporters there was not a part of Mr Golinski’s body which did not appear to have been burnt and that he had suffered “incredible pain” trying to save his family. ABC News quoted a neighbour saying the man who was taken to hospital was found on the driveway, "burnt from head to toe"... Source: http://www.smh.com.au/queensland/celebrity-chef-fighting-for-life-after-fatal-house-fire-20111226-1p9w9.html LATEST UPDATE: Updated December 26, 2011 16:59:11 A woman and her three daughters have died in a fire at a house believed to be owned by TV chef Matt Golinski. Firefighters were called to the family home at Tewantin on Queensland's Sunshine Coast about 3:30am (AEST) and found the house well alight. Neighbours say the house is owned by Golinski, who is also a local restaurateur. A man in his 40s, believed to be the children's father and the woman's partner, managed to escape and was taken to Nambour Hospital with serious burns. He has since been flown to the Royal Brisbane Hospital for specialist treatment. Neighbours were woken by the sound of explosions and ran to help while emergency services arrived. The blaze was so intense crews took 90 minutes to extinguish the flames. Police Inspector Terry Borland says the cause of the fire is not known. "We have a scientific squad from Brisbane on the way up here to do an examination on the house," he said. Neighbour Gary Siljac was among those who ran to help. "I woke up to some explosions and people screaming and we grabbed hoses and all that sort of stuff and tried to get to it," he said. "I went around the house and found the father sitting in the driveway in front of the house burned from head to toe." Mr Siljac says neighbours tried to douse the flames. "We moved the cars away from the house to help stop anything else worse from happening," he said. "We noticed big gas bottles there, so we told everyone to get out of the way." Davey Jones' Locker 1,324 Posted December 27, 2011 Latest (from the radio) is that it is touch and go for him. Here is the last update from the ABC website: "The flames were so intense it took emergency crews 90 minutes to bring the fire under control. This morning fire investigators and forensic police returned to what was left of the house to try to determine how the fire started. They are still working to determine the cause of the fire but say it appears the blaze was not suspicious. Golinski, 39, a local restaurateur who appears on TV show Ready Steady Cook, suffered burns to more than 40 per cent of his body. He was taken to Nambour Hospital and was later flown to the Royal Brisbane Hospital for specialist treatment. Neighbours reported hearing explosions and cries for help; some grabbed hoses, but there was little they could do. Scientific experts from Brisbane were called to help examine the scene. Concerns have been raised that it took an ambulance almost 30 minutes to arrive at the scene. But authorities say three Queensland Ambulance Service units in the Tewantin area were already responding to other cases. " *** Yes, as AngryGreatness notes, might be better for him not to survive after losing his whole family like that.
Davey Jones' Locker 1,324 Posted December 27, 2011 ... and in related news: "A newspaper in Chile has been ordered to compensate 13 readers who suffered burns when they followed a published recipe for churros, a popular Latin American snack of fried dough. The newspaper's recipe for churros caused explosions that showered the home cooks with hot oil. Chile's supreme court ordered the La Tercera newspaper to pay more than $160,000 to the victims. The court found the newspaper had failed to fully test the recipe before publication and that injury was inevitable for anyone who followed the recipe." Bibliogryphon 9,592 Posted May 17, 2012 Does anybosy know exactly how old Rusty Lee is? She is one of a few people who I cannot reliably find a date of birth for. I have pencilled in 1955 but not from any reliable source or Wiki. I think she would be worthy of adding to a theme team of chefs or loud annoying people. Davey Jones' Locker 1,324 Posted May 17, 2012 Peter Russell Clark was on an Aussie tabloid current affairs show last night. Apparently, his house burnt down a few months ago in a fire and he lost the lot. He is looking quite old and gaunt now but still has a sense of humour which I guess will keep him going a bit longer.
