Lafaucheuse 4,043 Posted December 27, 2023 Delors' death comes as a timely surprise as I just had 8 hits on my french list this year. So 17 names to take off my list. That was hard as most of them were A-listers, quite frail and really old. Here is a quick recap of those I let go and why so : - Hugues Aufray (b. 1929) : the legendary crooner just got married this summer at 94. Still touring, Think he has some more times even if he was hospitalized a month ago for some broken ribs and dental problems - Anne Aymone-Giscard d'Estaing (b. 1934) : still here and there and seemingly in fine health as one can say by this photo with her daughter… Valérie-Anne Giscard d'Estaing (great imagination for the name) - Pierre Joliot (b. 1932) and Hélène Langevin Joliot (b. 1927) : the nonagenarian Curie's grandchildren and famous scientific both appeared quite healthy those last months, giving interviews and conferences here and there - Judith Magre (b. 1926) : the legendary actress just co-signed Depardieu's support tribune which makes me think she's still up to date and committed. Appeared some months ago in an interview and looked and sounded really fine. One of the most best-looking 97 yo I've seen in a while. - Pierre Nora (b. 1931) : the historian and academician still gives interview, looks and sounds amazingly well here for example. A wasted pick. - Mona Ozouf (b. 1931) : the historian and philosopher just received a prize in Britain and was pictured here, and here in september. Looks frail but not at death's door and still gives interview and everything. Not sure about this one drop though… Those I kept are the frailest of them all : - Anouk Aimée (b. 1932) : the Un Homme, Une Femme, La Dolce Vita and Lola actress is looking particularly frail in this photo from this summer - Yvon Gattaz (b. 1925) : the 98yo businessman is looking rough here. But still able to stand and assist to his foundation prize ceremony - François Cheng (b. 1929) : academician and author who looked almost dead for some years, as you can see from this picture of 2019. Though still giving interview and working apparently. But so did Hélène Carrère d'Encausse… - Geneviève de Gallard-Terraube (b. 1925) : the Angel of Dien Bien Phu is looking extremely frail these days. Maybe it'll give some of you some ideas for a theme team or other lists (Cf. Book…)

I can name three living major firearm designers: 1) George Kellgren (1943) Kel-Tec founder who designed the notorious TEC-9 known for movie appearances, being a weapon-of-choice of organized crime groups and one of the weapons used by the Columbine perpetrators. 2) Leroy James Sullivan (1933) Most notably one of the two or three designers of the ArmaLite AR-15 but also Stoner 63, Ruger Mini-14, Ultimax 100 and Ruger M77. 3) Ronnie Barrett (1954) Father of the Barrett M82 that's still used by more or less half of the functioning armies in the world. There's also cartridge designer JD Jones (1936) who's a very minor name but old and massive in size. Edit, my yearly very unofficial self-made "Finnish list" is here. Spoiler 1.
