Interesting. When I searched for Montaldo fifteen minutes ago, there were no results.

while sorting names for my longlist of names and googling their name, I just discovered that one of my "maybe" picks has died yesterday : Louis Velle, dead at 96 years old. He was one of the oldest french (hello Ullitzer) actors. He was married to another of my "maybe" picks, Frederique Hebrard (b. 1927), actress and author (probably more famous than him).

Frédérique Hébrard is now at rest with her husband. She was 96 years old

Zeenat Bartakullah, Bangladeshi dancer and TV actress is "no more":

She was a known name on the forum from a health episode late 2020. We missed (for the Cup) that she was also in ICU this march.

Lenita Airisto, 86, Finnish businesswoman, tv journalist, contestant in Miss Universe 1954 and feminist icon rumored to be in hospital/very ill

Up until recently one of those few current nonagenarian/octogenarian Finnish celebrities who've appeared very frequently on tv. I'd put dancer/tv face Aira Samulin (96), maybe politicians Jaakko Iloniemi (91) and Elisabeth Rehn (88), singers Pirkko Mannola, Eino Grön (both 84) and Danny (80) in the same group, all very notable in Finland and people who'll likely die once they stop appearing on tv/aren't interviewed anymore. I've known people who've worked with/known some of them, apparently Airisto and Grön are very nice, Danny is fine, Mannola is quite arrogant and Samulin is notoriously horrible to be around but has always been treated very well by the media.

Edit: Oh, and of course Seela Sella (86).

Not many Filipino names left on my list of people born up to 1926 now. There were dozens when I started it in '08.

The survivors:

Avelina Gil (wiki, b. 1917) writer
Whang-od (wiki, b. 1917) tattoo artist
Josefina Constantino (wiki, b. 1920) essayist and poet
Rosalia Merino Santos (wiki, b. 1923) dancer and choreographer
Juan Ponce Enrile (wiki, b. 1924) President of the Senate, 2008–2013
Magdalena Gamayo (wiki, b. 1924) weaver
Virginia Ty-Navarro (wiki, b. 1924) sculptor
Eugenia Apostol (wiki, b. 1925) publisher
Amelita Ramos (wiki, b. 1926) First Lady, 1992–1998

Avelina "Veling" Gil, Filipino writer and current centenarians DP pick died in April 2021 at 103. More "proof" here (see the book on the table). Josefina Constantino still alive as of March.

Out of the other born in 1917 I'm not sure Frederico Fischer and Maria Teresa Sesé are still alive.

I'd say last notable people from 1917 are Whang-od (likely born 1925, on Vogue cover last year), Song Ping (Politburo member in the 80s, A-lister politician), Ena Collymore-Woodstock (Jamaican first woman magistrate), Yang You (oldest CAE member, teacher to Huang Xuhua) and Robert R. Holt (quite big name in Academia).

The rest don't have a real claim to fame.

No just I thought she was really born in 1917, where is the source for 1925?

I can't find the source at the moment, but it came from Whang-od herself. She says there are no records of her birth (of course in rural Philippines) and 1917 was a "fixed" year, but it could be any year between 1917 and 1925.

I think if Fischer is dead it'd make Ilmari Koppinen both the oldest and the last "major" masters athlete born in the 1910s (well, of course Frauda Singh is still alive and will end up outliving Koppinen and all of us...also, Koppinen has survived his "archnemesis" Emiel Pauwels by nearly 10 years). It also seems that most of the centenarian "icons" of masters athletics have died and the new ones haven't gained that much attention (with the exception of Hurricane Hawkins and Sawang Janpram).

Edit, well...Here, those born in/before 1925, excluded the most minor boring names, US-only names with italic:

Fauja Singh BEM ("1911") Sikh Tornado, likely around 15 years younger.

Nihal Gil (1915?/1916?-Dead) "Nippy", Canadian and won gold in the Americas Masters games in 2016. As far as I know, no news since and should be dead.

Julia Hawkins (1916) Known as "Hurricane Hawkins", got a lot of media attention for breaking records at 105 two years ago. Not much on her since, but I doubt she would die off-radar.

Ella Mae Colbert (1916-2023) 100 meters dash recordbreaker 2016. B. 11 May 1916. Very frail now.

Frederico Fischer (1917) Recordbreaker, most recent news around 2020.

Rambai ("1917") "Grand Old Lady of Indian Athletics", but likely another complete fraud and only got notable during the last few years.

Ilmari Koppinen (1918) Professor. Still very active and competing for decades.

E. Gerald Meyer (1919) four gold medals at a 2019 US Senior Games, but a bit more known for being a chemist.

Sawang Janpram (1920?) Current recordbreaker covered by Inside Edition last year. Trained by his septuagenarian daughter.

Lester Wright Sr (1922) Broke Pellmann's record of M100 100 meters at Penn Relays but didn't reach Frauda's scores. His wife of 80 years died in June.

Roy Englert (1923) Senior Games current champion.

Toshio Kamehama (1925) Last year he broke the M95 record at 200 meters, but his record was broken last month. Could die off-radar unless he becomes the next Golden Bolt and competes until 100+.

Lauri Helle (1925) M95 weight throw recordbreaker. Wrote his most recent column a week ago.

I think the most impressive however is Earl Fee (1929) who was breaking M65, M70 records in the 1990s and is still competing and breaking records at 90+.

I dont think Fischer is dead, at least alive in 2020 when he turned 103, I think his death could be noticed.
