Ashley Dalton, Labour MP for West Lancashire, diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer. She's undergone treatment and has currently no evidence of disease. This could return but she seems fine atm. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cwy4y21xdkko

(Thanks to Ivor Caplin's X feed for this news!).

Informative thread from her.

So she is technically terminally ill and the Cancer will return at some point but she could also live many years.

Two retirements from the House of Lords today:

Lord Quentin Davies (wiki), 79, Conservative (then defected to Labour) MP (1987–2010), served as a minister under Gordon Brown
Lord Doug Hoyle (wiki), 93, Labour MP (1974–1997) and father of Commons Speaker Lindsay Hoyle

One more due on Thursday:

Lord Hylton (wiki), 91, Crossbench hereditary peer, longest serving crossbencher, sat in Parl since 1968

Just two years ago I frequently saw Hylton downing pints in the Lord Riverside Bar, but he looked pretty frail. I know nothing of the other two, but I think these could be 3 names worth watching.

Turncoat former MP (Tory then Labour) Lord Quentin Davies (wiki) dead at 80.

Also one of the MPs absolutely nailed by the expenses scandal.

Times death notice.

Spoiler

DAVIES OF STAMFORD Quentin, Lord Davies of Stamford, died peacefully on 13th January 2025, aged 80. Much-loved husband of Chantal and father of Alex and Nick. Former diplomat, international banker and parliamentarian. Funeral at St Mary’s Church, Frampton, on Friday 7th February at 2pm. No flowers please, but donations to Parkinson’s UK. All inquiries to Addlesee & Son, 01205 311303.

Sir Julius Chan, former Papua New Guinea prime minister a few days ago:

He had another hospitalisation last year (collapse, possibly a stroke?), rumored dead atleast three times in recent years and regularly misses events due to health reasons. To my suprise he's still serving as Governor of New Ireland, whatever that is.

He's also according to Wikipedia the 15th-longest serving member of the British privy council. The list is quite interesting, tons of good pool possibilities: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_current_members_of_the_British_Privy_Council

Julius Chan dead at 85.
