Toast 16,201 Posted November 10, 2016 Succeed? If you mean secede, it a) won't happen, isn't legal (see Texas v White), and, if someone does attempt it, c) will get stopped by the thousands of soldiers and sailors posted to California's network of military bases. Hell, northern California has been trying to break the state apart for years with zero luck (see State of Jefferson). California has just legalized marijuana, tacked a $2/pack tax on cigarettes, made it illegal to own high capacity magazines, enacted a requirement for a background check for ammunition sales, and outlawed plastic grocery sacks. They have a bit of adjustment to do before they will have the time to consider anything else. And they're probably all too stoned now anyway.
Bibliogryphon 9,614 Posted November 10, 2016 There have been a lot of people on social media suggesting that the US election is wackier than the EU referendum result but as a colleague pointed out yestrday in 2020 the US can kick Trump out but we will still be outside the EU. NJD123 26 Posted November 10, 2016 I had a rather amusing/sad idea (depending on your point of view) the other day. If Bush Sr or Carter die in the next 4 years (very likely), surely Trump will be expected to speak at the funeral as the sitting President. This seems to be the tradition in America. Can't imagine the Bush family would be happy about that!!

You assume that the EU will still exist in 2020.
Paul Bearer 6,126 Posted November 10, 2016 Think I'll close this thread now. We have the answer, like it or lump it. The winner is Donald J. Trump.
Joey Russ 7,255 Posted November 10, 2016 Think I'll close this thread now. We have the answer, like it or lump it. The winner is Donald J. Trump. Before you do, I'm wondering if we should have an American political discussion thread, cause a lot of posts are about that in the past two days.
