Toscani had announced in 2024 he had been battling amyloidosis, which secured him a spot on the list. Considered one of the best Italian photographers to have ever lived, his campaigns featured terminally ill HIV patients, asses with biblical references, anorexic models, prelates kissing and many other. This came with a bit of hypocrisy, as he was being paid by clothing brand Benetton, and his images were aimed at provoking sympathy towards his customer. A radical leftist for his whole life, he was not new to controversial remarks, such as in 2020, when he said that no one "gave a fuck" about the Ponte Morandi collapse, in which 43 people lost their lives. This finally got him fired from Benetton (Benetton owned the Morandi bridge and were in the eye of the cyclone).
