I thought he was already dead, i really must try to keep in touch with this website more (as the're were many others who i thought were brown bread still showing as alive), getting the names mixed up reminds me that a couple of years ago a lynch mob smashed up a house in Portsmouth after they were told that the person (turned out to be a woman) who lived there was a paediatrician (true story)

... as opposed to a paedophile.

Actually this is true.

Comic legend Jerry Lewis is getting the television academy's prestigious Governors Award in recognition for his more than half-century of work.

I believe it doesn't get awarded until September/October (no this isn't a new month).

Will he still be around to recieve it? (Dramatic pause)

Who knows!?

He never should have left his backing band 'The News'. How Gunjawoman and I dance and sing whenever he's on the wireless, "I want a new drug" and "Power of love" have us whirling around the lounge like teenagers. Needless to say, the "Heart of rock and roll" is still beating as long as this entertainment stalwart is with us. :)

The person that you are referring to is Huey Lewis and not "Jerry Lewis". In the 1980’s, "Huey Lewis and the News" were a phenomenal band. ;)

INT. BATEMAN'S APARTMENT - NIGHT

The living room floor has been meticulously covered with

newspaper.

Owen is slumped drunkenly in a white Eames chair, a glass

in his hand. Bateman is looking through his CDs.

BATEMAN

You like Huey Lewis and the News?

OWEN

They're okay.

BATEMAN

Their early work was a little too New Wave for my

taste. But then Sports came out in 1983, I think they really

came into their own, commercially and artistically.

Bateman walks to his bathroom, taking a large ax out of the

shower. He takes two Valium.

BATEMAN

(Said partly from the bathroom)

The whole album has a clear, crisp sound and a new sheen of

consummate professionalism that gives the songs a big boost.

Bateman comes back out and leans the ax against the wall.

He walks to the foyer and puts on a raincoat, watching Owen

from behind ail the time.

BATEMAN

He's been compared to ELvis Costello but I think

Huey has a more bitter, cynical sense of humor.

Owen is absent-mindedly leafing through the Barneys

catalogue.

OWEN

Hey, Halberstam?

BATEMAN

Yes, Owen?

OWEN

Why are there copies of the Style section all over

the place? Do you have a dog? A chow or something?

BATEMAN

No, Owen.

OWEN

(Confused)

Is that a raincoat?

BATEMAN

Yes, it is.

Bateman moves to the CD player. He takes a CD out of its

case and slides it in the machine.

BATEMAN

In 1987 Huey released this, Fore!, their most

accomplished album. I think I heir undisputed masterpiece is

"HiP To Be Square," a song so catchy that most people probably

don't listen to the lyrics. But they should because it's not

just about the pleasures of conformity and the importance of

trends. It's al~ a personal statement about the band itself.

Bateman puts on "Hip To Be Square."

BATEMAN crosses the room and picks up the ax.

We follow BATEMAN from behind as he walks up to Owen, the

ax raised over his head.

BATEMAN

Hey, Paul?

As Owen turns around, FROM OWEN'S POV we see Bateman swing

the ax toward his face.

Blood sprays onto the white raincoat.

FROM BEHIND OWEN, we see BATEMAN as he yanks the ax out.

Owen drops to the floor. His body falls out of the frame.

We stay on his legs twitching mechanically.

Blood pulses onto the newspaper-covered floor

Currently, Jerry's hosting his annual Muscular Dystrophy Assoc. Telethon...and he looks like he's going to make it to 2006. He stood mainly behind a podium (what little I watched of him), joking around, seemingly in little to no pain with only the occasional stop to catch his breath (better than the past couple years). Didn't really get a sense of how much mobility he's capable of though.

He was on Letterman this week and looked very good, had lost weight, and was (to the extent that he can be without Dean Martin) very amusing.

He was actually on the Late Show with Conan O'Brien (not Letterman) and looked to be in great shape. He was bouncing around and very into the interview. He was, however, amusing at BEST and dated at worst. They ran an old clip of him in a choir and it was not funny, and was way too long for the format of that show.

I'm guessing this will not be a win for ye' ol' deathlist for several years.

His popularity in deadpools seems to be wearing off... I guess they misunderestimated him. ;)

Would probably suggest removing him from next year's list, but, even for my personal knowledge, I'd like to hear from anyone who thinks otherwise.

No he was on Letterman. The reason I said he was on Letterman rather than Conan is because the name of the show that he was on is "Late Night With David Letterman".

Maybe he should get together with Norman Wisdom, who seems to suffer under a similarly time-warped illusion that his old act still has the power to amuse.

I disagree. He was quite funny on Letterman and his old films are very funny. Also very good in "The King of Comedy" and "Funnybones".
