Sod's Law 443 Posted June 5 Still yet to come across a single Charlie coin despite having quite a lot of pocket change hanging around. Any chance people can stop hoarding these now and put them back into circulation already? The novelty has to wear off at some point.

I could be wrong and you all could tell me so, but do you think people are hoarding them as well due to there might not be a lot that go out in circulation and they might become valuable later? The coins have been stuck in sufficient quantities that they will never have a significant value from circulation. I've seen a few King Charles coins up this way. They will soon be much more prominent when the other denominations are released into circulation, featuring nature...
Toast 16,124 Posted June 6 I don't think the mintage has been released yet for the Coronation 50p, but the QEII Memorial 50p mintage was 9,600,000 so there should be plenty of those about. The Royal Mint don't make it easy to find info about circulating coins on their website, but I tracked it down eventually. https://www.royalmint.com/corporate/circulating-coin/uk-currency/mintages/50-pence/
Comped 525 Posted June 7 Charles traveled to France for D-Day commemorations, but did not appear at the big international ceremony later on yesterday afternoon. Per CNN... " A royal source told CNN that it was considered a step too far at this stage but that the monarch was delighted the Prince of Wales was representing the nation." (This is, interestingly enough, exactly the same language The Mirror had in their own report of the day. Notably, The Mirror also report that the King will not be on horseback during the Trooping the Colour due to his ongoing treatment.) From the pictures i saw, he looked pretty good, better than expected to be honest.

Cancel that. I took it to mean they were furious with the King for going against medical advice. But now I've read the quote in context, it's clear that it was Sunak they were furious with. Yep and the fact that's come out in the midst of an election when the Palace tries to stear clear of things is very telling.

Well, I went to a food fair today and made it my mission to only use cash (since it was in a rural location where the signal is too bad for card payment). Ended up with a lot of change and raked through it all for my first Charlie penny. No luck. In fact, I don't have one coin which was minted later than 2017. Royal Mint must have also been slacking off since then.

At this point, I think it'd be easier for me to go through the Royal Canadian Mint for coins with Charles on them then hope some British tourists accidentally slip some into my local money supply (or drop some at EPCOT while drunk) - since the Royal Mint seems to be having issues with getting their coins into circulation at the moment! My British associates, from London all the way to Inverness, and even Belfast, report similar issues, to be fair.

TylerTheCreator 36 Posted July 16 Charles caught "snapping" at an aide to help Camilla put her coat on when they caught in the rain: https://www.independent.co.uk/tv/lifestyle/king-charles-queen-camilla-jersey-aide-b2580531.html Of relevance - he's getting quite soaked and there were "very heavy winds". Surely the powers that be wouldn't let him get exposed like that if his condition is super fragile? Suggests he's doing ok imo.

Kind of reasonable that he wouldn't want his wife catching a chill while soaked... That's how you get pneumonia. As for his condition, I think this is a sign he's doing well. The chance this would make pribt if if he was actively not improving or it was not responding well to treatment, is very low. Also the government seems to be full steam ahead in redoing postboxes. There was a photo on Twitter of William and Keir Starmer at the football which purports to show aggression from William. Put into context alongside other shots it's clear that it's just part of an animated conversation. You always need to see, and ideally hear, the whole scene to understand fully what's gone on. Comped 525 Posted July 17 Just watched the King's Speech (Christ it feels weird to call it that). Charles rode in the State Carriage. Actually, considering reports here otherwise, he looked well while reading. I do miss the comments from Dennis Skinner though.

I was hoping his successors in this seat would follow on the tradition in some way (maybe make them 'MP for Black Rod Heckling'), but no such luck.

There was some indication from some people I know with parliamentary sources, that apparently a few MPs may have thought about it but decided against it in fear of being compared to Dennis. Fleet may just be a little too new in the seat to be willing to do it, while others in Labor in particular probably felt that it may have underminded the moment. I don't know directly, but all of this seems probably reasonable even in part.
