gcreptile 10,976 Posted June 12 "Is everybody else just me?" "You're one of twelve." ....it took me a while to understand that this was not some kind of mystic conversation. 1

Russell Grant - still looks like a HA in motion. John Goodman - went on a health kick and lost a bunch of weight and tbh good on him. Michael Barrymore - just thought he was due a stroke, looked like shit on TV when the game started. Steve Buscemi - just a punt pick. He worked as a fireman on 9-11, I sort of expect the cancer news one day. But tbh I picked punts, not realising half the teams would go for old frail folk!

No no, I was saying Handy is part of a Europe-wide organisation of assassins that Fiona Shaw, Sandra Oh and the rest of MI6 are trying to catch.
TQR 14,398 Posted June 12 This is how my team are doing: Dennis Skinner: Seen very little of him since he lost his seat in 2019. I thought he'd be like a shark and die if he stopped. That wasn't the case, but since this started he has developed dementia. Irma Thomas: Performed with The Rolling Stones a month ago. Looks amazing. Will outlive me. Jackie Stewart: 85 yesterday. Still sharp as a tack and pops up regularly on grand prix weekends. Maggie Smith: Slowed down a bit but still appears to be going strong. Robbie Coltrane: The youngest was the first to go

You played it legit. My team's only one better off, and I cheated a little with Greavesie. Norman Tebbit - the bane of pretty much every game I play. Been skeletal for about 20 years but refuses to die like the obstinate bugger he's always been. Joni Mitchell - looked a decent bet, but she keeps defying the odds and, if anything, is looking better than she has in years. Joe Pesci - retired from acting, but slowing down rather than dying any time soon I suspect. Kathy Burke - my only real, true punt and, like Goodman, seems to have cleaned herself up after her 90s excesses and good for her. Felt like a classic sudden stroke or heart attack, or even cancer (which gets so many comedians/ennes) but could easily still be alive in 20 or 30 years. When this game will probably still be running.

TQR 14,398 Posted June 19 The devastating news of the passing of Willie Mays begs the question: who the fuck is Willie Mays? Still, never mind, it's a hit. The first, indeed, for Don't Fear The Reaper who, at this rate of hits, will have a full house by mid-2038, so watch out everyone. Well bat my balls and call me Willie...it's another scoreboard: Banana - 4 Engineer - 3 GuyFromFuture - 3 En Passant - 2 Newjack - 2 Grim Up North - 2 Book - 2 Great Uncle Bulgaria - 2 Spade Cooley - 2 CaptainChorizo - 2 gcreptile - 1 Death Impends - 1 RoverAndOut - 1 Charles d’Irlande - 1 Joemoneypenny - 1 Dying Probably - 1 Toast - 1 BuffaloPhil - 1 TQR - 1 CalebH - 1 markb4 - 1 time - 1 Don't Fear The Reaper - 1 Everyone else - Naff all

Toast 16,141 Posted September 29 The one that really pisses me off is "sadly passed away" which is regurgitated as though it were a single word. How much quicker to say "died". I particularly dislike the positioning of "sadly" as it appears to refer to the deceased. It may be sad for others, but sometimes people are glad to go. It is much better to say "Sadly, X has died" or, if you are too spineless to say DIED, "Sadly, X has passed away". Time people stopped being scared of the words dead, died etc.
