and that's up against some pretty stiff competition

And that’s after, when you consider the 10 days of mourning for Mrs Queen, about three weeks in the job.

LBC speculating that decision made to remove Truss, pending a plan to install replacement.

Just as I was typing this, LBC’s James O’Brien and Theo Usherwood also supposed that Truss might WANT a General Election so she can just fuck off to the House of Lords.

If she moved to call an election now I'm thinking the men in grey suits (1922 Committee) would likely organize some intervention by men in white coats to stop it. On the present polls they'd be wiped out, averaging 25% behind Labour generally, around 13% down in so called "Blue Wall" seats and that's before the impact of the tactical anti-Conservative voting seen in the final by-elections of Boris Johnson's reign.

Another U-Turn imminent, this time on corporation tax. It’ll find £18bn of her £61bn black hole, but will also piss off royally most of the people who put her where she is, and arguably won’t do much for her push for growthgrowthgrowth.

True, but I can’t help but think, as I’m sure many Tories do too, that the more they shamble on, the longer it’ll be before they come back, even if it means a heavier defeat now. Stopping their own rot now could be the difference between 10 years and 30 years out of government.

That's not unlike the conclusion of the letter I sent to my MP.

Quote

I am sure that there are other decent people within the Conservative government, but as long as they stand by and do nothing, all of you are complicit in the destruction of our country.

This cannot be fixed by yet another change of Prime Minister; the rot has gone too deep.  The only hope now for the Conservative Party is a period out of government.  A chance to rid itself of corruption, and clean out its Augean stables.

We need a General Election NOW.

I was careful not to disclose whether or not I am a Conservative voter

Spoiler

(I'm not)

so it can be interpreted as me wanting the best for the Party!  :D

Aye, a good gambit when emailing your local Conservative MP is to ask if they plan to work when inevitably ousted or take advantage of their own generous massaging of figures (creating so many options for people to become unemployed that the actual jobless figures have gone down).

This thread should surely be in the extra curricular section?

Whilst her political career is dying in quick time, she will be around for another 40 years.

Well, she’s just one of many world “leaders” who have threads despite apparently being otherwise healthy.

I think the Trump, Biden and BoJo threads belong here. The former two are old and have questions over their health (Biden with his mind going, and Trump with his weight) and Johnson is obese and nearly died from COVID just a few years ago.

Starmer and Truss shouldn't have threads or they should be punted into off topic / merged with the political discussions thread. Otherwise we might as well start threads for every other healthy individual of prominence in their 40s and 50s.

Honestly, I quite agree. Trump and Biden are old/fat/wobbly/unstable (pick a minimum of two for each) so arguably their threads are warranted…Johnson’s a push, however, particularly when you consider his thread was created years before he was even London Mayor; unless the risk factor was just that one might want to stab him in the face. Truss seemingly only got a thread because PMs have one regardless, and a blithering moron started Starmer’s because of a minor traffic incident.

Still, it’s another place to have a laugh I suppose.

She is literally going to piss off everyone who voted her in as Tory leader and the rest of her party and the country hate her already.I knew Truss would be shit but this is specialist.

I recall someone decrying the very existence of a Dustin Diamond thread. He was dead in 2 years after that post.

Bawjaws was so up himself he went round a ward of COVID patients thinking he was Lady Diana spreading the disease and catching the thing himself, nearly saving us 2 years of sad leadership.

Truss is even more of a dangerous idiot. Deserves her own thread as possibly the shortest tenured PM anyway, but a PM without a thread is like burying Angela Lansbury posts in the Hollywood threads.

As I never tire of saying, Gordon Brown has two threads!

Mr Bump.

Her favourite historian Rick Perlstein (she was very keen to get this across) says she hasn’t understood a word of his work, missing the obvious cynicism in his books chronicling the rise of the new right.

Early-onset dementia would explain away a lot of her astonishing stupidity. Final stage if she starts mumbling the wrong word here and there.

I fucking hate her so knock yourself out.

Used to work with her years ago and she's utterly brain dead so don't expect any tumours to develop there!

One of my friends in the political game believes she’s going to resign today.

I can’t see it. Truss has wanted this job for forever and she will do anything to hold on.

Still, going down in history as Britain’s shortest serving PM will serve her right for doing the dirty on dear Penny.

Edit: Supposedly she will sack her old flame, Kwasi. Oh dear…
