Phew, the last time the 90s saw a shootout this intense, 2Pac ended up in an urn.

Anyway, after that viciously fought top-10, Nina Persson finally gets the validation she has yearned for for 27 years. Some might say the result was unexpected, but you can't exactly say it's an outrage. The deserved winner of the best No.2 of the 90s is...The Cardigans — Lovefool :champagne:

So, the full results of our awesome final:

1st: The Cardigans — Lovefool

2nd: Deee-Lite — Groove Is In The Heart

3rd: The Verve — Bitter Sweet Symphony

4th: Madonna — Beautiful Stranger

5th: Supergrass — Alright / Time

6th: Kylie Minogue — Confide In Me

7th: Pulp — Common People

8th: Blur — Song 2

9th: James — Sit Down

10th: Natalie Imbruglia — Torn

11th: Ace Of Base — The Sign

12th: Fatboy Slim — Right Here, Right Now

13th: DNA ft. Suzanne Vega — Tom’s Diner

14th: Haddaway — What Is Love

15th: KLF ft. Tammy Wynette — Justified & Ancient

16th: Ce Ce Penistone — Finally

17th: Stardust — Music Sounds Better With You

18th: The Corrs — Runaway

19th: Alannah Myles - Black Velvet

20th: Pulp — Mis-Shapes / Sorted For E’s And Wizz

21st: Madonna — Ray Of Light

22nd: Freddie Mercury & Montserrat Caballé — Barcelona

23rd: Natalie Imbruglia — Big Mistake

24th: Kris Kross — Jump

25th: Chumbawamba — Tubthumping

There they are, the best 25. God, the 90s were shit hot. Some of it, however, was just shit. Here's the worst 25 of the game, as voted by us:

Right Said Fred — I’m Too Sexy

Gazza & Lindisfarne — Fog On The Tyne

Various Artists — The Brits 1990

Madonna — Hanky Panky

Londonbeat — I’ve Been Thinking About You

Take That — Why Can’t I Wake Up With You

Snow — Informer

Smart E’s — Sesame’s Treet

Nick Berry — Heartbeat

2 Unlimited — Twilight Zone

Oasis — Wonderwall

Boyzone — Love Me For A Reason

Mariah Carey — All I Want For Christmas Is You

Boyzone — Father And Son

All-4-One — I Swear

Sarah Brightman & Andrea Bocelli — Time To Say Goodbye

Peter Andre — Mysterious Girl

Boyzone — Picture Of You

Oasis — Stand By Me

3T — Anything

Boyzone — I Love The Way You Love Me

Cartoons — Witch Doctor

Geri Halliwell — Look At Me

Mousse T — Horny

Fat Les — Vindaloo

Jesus Christ.

We weren't counting the kills this time, and frankly the competition was all the better for it. But I think it's a safe assumption that theoldlady did the lion's share of it.

So, until the No.3s, that's the 90s done. I'm genuinely saddened. Now, before we go forwards, we must briefly go back...to the 60s! Coming soon (as in, the next few mins)

Lovefool is my personal No.10 in this final so it's a song I really like.

However, Groove is in the heart, my No. 3, is more iconic imo.

If you had asked me before this game started I would have been convinced Groove is in the Heart has been No.1

This is one of my favorite dancing songs of all time! It could have been a song by the B-52's

Right decision for me of the final 2 but Groove... was in my top 5 when I came to the remaining final songs. Lovefool is one of those songs that is probably not as mainstream as you might expect but lots of people would know if they heard it and is a genuinely great song. Would've been a harder choice if Bittersweet was still there too and I think I was probably Team Torn of the songs left when I rejoined. Plenty of great tunes in the 90s...and plenty of shite. Unfortunately we don't always all agree which ones are which.

Some may question our collective musical taste but this is the right place to run these games. Where we are obsessed by lists and have patience enough to wait for Zsa Zsa Gabor, Kirk Douglas, Vera Lynn and Jimmy Carter to die

I have mixed feelings on this one. I was very happy with the top ten overall, although I'd have had Alannah Myles and Freddie and Montserrat in there, but of that top ten the ultimate top two are the two that I'd have put bottom. Common People and Confide In Me would have been my top two.

I had Common People and Sit Down as my top 2

Having looked at the full top 25, I am astounded Black Velvet went out so early, it would have been in my top 5 I think. Barcelona, I imagine, is a little more marmite but is definitely a tune in my mind. Pleasantly surprised to see that Runaway by the Corrs made the Grand Final.

I don’t make pre-list rankings but I thought there were about 8 really good songs on the list at the start, and almost all made the top 10 and three were the top 3 so absolutely no complaints.  Lovefool was a bit eccentric and plunky in its composition and I thought its popularity would keep it around a while but its eccentricity would eventually be its doom, the absence of which comes as a surprise.

Black Velvet is full of soul and deserved better, not sure why it got beat up early on.  And The Sign really should have been top 5 but oh well, history and sales says it was, that’s good enough; like Kris Kross, if you just don’t like hip hop you’ll vote it down, and I can see that with Ace of Base’s faux reggae beat as well.

In the end a pleasingly palatable top 3 and overall result.
