I predicted from the start of the year that 2024 would be a very good year for the French Deathlist, just by simply looking at all the nonagenarian and centenarian we choose. Surely some child actors (Terry Kilburn) and royal children / children of political/military leaders (not a great example, but Anita Bose-Pfaff) still living from that time? But not sure if there are any who were "famous". Virginia C. Claudon Allen should still be alive although I haven't read much about her, I have no idea if she was famous in any way at the time. Lafaucheuse 4,051 Posted March 13 13 mars 2024 Hit n°6 Last Call for de Gaulle French admiral and son of Charles de Gaulle, Philippe de Gaulle has passed aged 102 to provide our french deathlist with another centenarian hit. Philippe was born in Paris in 1921, and discovered his vocation for the French navy very early on. In 1940, he joined the Forces Navales Françaises Libres right after his father's appeal of the 18th June and fought as a member of the Resistance during the war. After the conflict, he became a politician, following his father's example, being nominated councilor of Paris between 1983 and 2008 amongst other majors shadow missions. During all his life, he devoted himself to a highly prolific artistic practice and produced paintings, sculptures, illustrations, ceramics and even creating new designs for banknotes and coins, managing to exhibit his works in the most prestigious exhibitions of his time such as Le Salon d'Automne, Le Salon des Artistes Décorateurs and others. During his lifetime, his father always refused to honour him with military honours, suspecting it would be seen as nepotism. He thus dies without ever having been a Companion of the Liberation and without having received the Resistance Medal, in spite of his dedication to resistance during the conflict. He was selected this year at n°1 spot, being one of the most well-known oldest people on the list.
