Jim Lovell and Pat Saiki were my two subs for the main team, and Pat Buchanan and Hal Rogers for the electoral team.

Solid "d'oh" on my part for Asma al-Assad, who I just thought was a bit ill and crossed off quite quickly.

Some picks were pushed from main team to B- and C-team, as I had my doubts:

Joe Thompson: Had to make room for Ludek Miklosko. Leukemia always makes people look terrible, and it seems to be fairly aggressive. But he had to make room, and final updates seemed to imply that he got better.

Ben Rathbun: 90 day fiancé-guy (no wonder I posted about a different 90 day fiancé guy a couple of days ago). Some say he is dying of liver cancer, but he's also a shady person. I felt like I couldn't afford both Aaron Shattock and Ben Rathbun.

Jorge Nuno Pinta da Costa: On the main team draft until drol posted about him. If he dies, he'll get a QO in the football coverage. He seems to have retreated from the brinks of death for now.

Chuwit Kamovlisit - couldn't pick him in the main team, after my disappointment with Jamal Yunos. How sick is he really? He's still involved in politics too, as of a couple of days ago.

Robert Fisk (Daily Express reporter) - I think he made room for Kathy Brown. His health goes up and down, it seems. I was unsure.

Mike Peters - now freshly diagnosed with Richter's syndrome, which makes leukemia worse. But he is still in treatment, so he isn't on the clock.

Nigel St-Sm., and MTT: No main team for you guys anymore.

Esther Rantzen: Yes, these recent news made me push her to the B-team. Her drug seems effective according to statistics, which, by the way, is NOT true for Theo Burrell's last line of treatment

Jason Hawk: Of reality TV show Mountain Men. While the Amish reality TV show was covered by the necessary media outlets, I didn't find the same thing true for "Mountain Men".

Picks I ignored - there were a ton:

Victoria Jackson - too early, too cooky - we'll meet again, though

Chris Hoy: Too early by his own admission, no reason to doubt that

Randy Moss: Surgery gives him time, but no guarantee he survives 2026

Kanya King: She might be in danger, but I want to be VERY certain when it comes to Decembre diagnoses.

Brian Dayett: Was in hospice, but only for Parkinson's? Meaning, it's like last year's dud Steve McCoy.

Oh yeah, Steve McCoy, Sean Wallace, and other yahoo picks: Not under consideration because of Yahoo. No more local coverage - Reuters still works, though

William Wise III: I posted about him on the forum. He's now really exploiting his illness for awareness campaigns - can't be doing that badly.

Toni Hilland: Seems stable? Breast cancer moves slowly.

Sophie Kinsella: I was a little in doubt about her latest Instagram pictures. She uses distortions, so maybe her face is actually a little puffy, which would be a warning sign. However, glioblastoma is not the danger it once was.

Some people went hard for foreign picks like Eleonora Giorgi or Georg Koch. I don't believe thesy QO, but I was wrong about Tim Lobinger.

So many great names that I was less than 50% on them getting a QO, even though I'm 90% they go this year.

Theologian Richard B. Hays, traditionalist biblical scholar who made some headlines last year for deciding that gay marriage was actually A-OK with God.

"Voice of the Huskers" Greg Sharpe, whatever that means

Paralympic gold medallist Margaret Gibbs - in hospice, but paralympic medallists from the 60s are nowhere near guaranteed point-scorers.

Jimmie Tweel Carder, owner of Jim's Steak and Spaghetti House, a James Beard "America's Classic" winner.

Gran Hamada - wrestling legend, the man who created lucharesu, but a lack of time in the big American leagues made me think he wasn't going to get written up by Metro when he goes

"Fat Bloke" Paul Sawyer - was my last drop - former editor of White Dwarf magazine and a big name in Warhammer-type circles. Just didn't see a route for him QO-ing.

Here's my top 10 who didn't make it:

1.      Christina Paszitzky (Comedienne/podcaster)- cancer is very early stage

2.      Michael H. Kenyon (Illinois Enema Bandit)-played him in 2024. UK obit doubts and @Gooseberry Crumble could possibly pick him negating unique points

3.      Jose E. Serrano (New York congressman) retired from congress a few years back  due to Parkinson’s but I can’t get a read on how sick he really is

4.      Vito Perillo (100 year old New Jersey mayor)-UK obit doubts

5.      Elzie Odom (95 year old former Arlington, Texas mayor) same as above

6.      John Sterling (MLB Broadcaster)-health issues look to have been overhyped

7.      Christopher Worrell (January 6th prisoner)-UK obit doubts and not sure how sick he is.

8.      General Booty (College football QB)-Almost picked for his name alone. He’s not  only an obit risk but incredibly unlikely to die.

9.      Richard Scolyer (Pathologist)-Apparently cancer free

10. Dianna Cowern (Physics Girl)-uncertain about her “Long Covid” diagnosis.

Laugh react for the enema quip.

The biggest drop for me is the King, as that "couldn't think of enough other names" casual pick he was on my rough draft for a long time. But enough names came up that it pushed him out.

After last year I said I wasn't going to drop 3 people on the last day again, and I didn't. I dropped 4.

Patrick Murray - His story goes up and down so often I lack trust in the pick.

Nigel McCrery - Very wary of late year terminal announcements that don't tell us what they actually have wrong with them.

Bobby Fulton - Survived cancer, sepsis and a heart attack during surgery, but his recent updates were him talking about 2022 so he's clearly survived them.

Someone I've decided should make 2026 and I'll keep to myself for now.

Elsewhere:

Linda Nolan/James Whale - fed up, can't be bothered, etc. Also seem fairly stable

Linda Tirado - Seems to be exaggerating her health woes?

Brian Dayett - End stage Parkinsons tricky to narrow down

Johnny Rep - Huge gut feeling about him but no room on the team.

Joe Thompson - originally a lock, but far too active.

Luděk Mikloško - If he is rejecting six months of chemo to extend his life so he can keep working, surely his prognosis is longer than 12 months? Otherwise that makes no sense to me.

Kanya King - I came close to picking her because she said she hoped she was still alive for the MOBOs which are only in February, but surely a year too early.

Raul Malo - Frankly he looked like shit in the 90s when he didn't have cancer, but he seems too optimistic.

Chuwit Kamolvisit - actually on my sub's list, but dropped as I don't think he's as ill as stated. I mean, he goes from hospice in Scotland to flying over to Thailand. Hmmmmmmm

Raphael - very likely to die but didn't think he would be drop 40
Mehmet Ali Agca, Alexey Soldatov- similar to Kamolvisit
Lady Antonia Fraser, Sam Nujoma - age reasons only, Aldrin was one more 90+ than I wanted
Danny Estrin - came very close to putting him in but info is still vague
Bryant Lin, Shirley Chung- not interesting enough
Nicholas Monson, Bruce Willis, David Lynch - feels like 2026
Patrick Murray, James Whale - BORED OF THEM
James Baker, Lucasz Kulas, Georg Koch - QO worries
Bridgette Wilson Sampras - no info
Imran Sherwani - he was the closest to the main team in the end. QO guaranteed, very ill, but just couldn't fit him in. He's in the theme team though.

Written here so that I can complain later about my poor decisions.

Drops from 2024

Jeanette Lee (52) - despite terminal ovarian cancer, due to taking Lynparza suggest she has a hereditary/mutation variant that can be managed; late December pictures show she's looking good; one to keep watching...

Yoko Ono (91) -  only room for one 90-something with D40 points to justify their inclusion (it was Chomsky)

Michael Bibi (33?) - had show dates in 2024 and more lined up for 2025, in remission

Nigel Starmer-Smith (80) - despite D40 points, hit 80, so -1 pt; again limiting 80-something picks (retained Tilson-Thomas) and I'm leary of dementia picks

Gavin Robertson (58) - has a postive outlook and looks great; yearly habit of end December interviews - and he looked great as of 28th

Rebecca Schull (95) - my failed attempt at a Unique last year; no new acting credits since 2022, so an easy drop

No room and my likely regrets

Jose Mujica (89) - I wanted to find room, but as he's likely to hit 90 and drop in pts, I couldn't have another 90-something; my most likely error

Frank Caprio (88) - hard not to include a pan can pick, but age and he seems to be doing well

Julian Glover (89) - again likely to reach 90; his hit-and-miss attendence at events/comic cons makes me wonder, plus slowing down on acting credits (many in 2023), one I figured could make the main DL

Judith Viorst (93) - writer, widow since 2022; I have a cryptic note from Sept '24 that seems important but can't make sense of it now!  Well into 90s anyway.
