American actor Earl Holliman (Wikidead at 96

Everywhere FB tributes from his family members, press is coming

A face and name that's only vaguely familiar to me, but regardless, lived a life that made for a very interesting Wiki read. Was once so sickly they reckoned he wouldn't survive childhood. Safe to say he defied that prediction! Seems like he was a genuinely nice guy too. Vegetarian, fed the homeless and campaigned for animals.

@Gooseberry Crumble is going to be gutted.

Star of the first proper Twilight Zone episode.

I am gutted.  Very easy on the eyes back in the day and someone who was definitely  going to appear in some of my teams next year minus the DDP as I doubt  he'd  have been a  juicy unique  pick and I've  really got my mind and heart focused on finally getting 60 unique picks this time.

Rest in peace to a special  part of my eye candy memories .

Earl Holliman was the last surviving cast member of Forbidden Planet.

That's assuming that Jimmy Thompson (IMDb, born 1923) is deceased. He seems to have faded into obscurity.

Jacqueline White (Wiki) turned 102 today!

She may not have had the fame of Ava Gardner, Eleanor Parker or Doris Day, but she still remains one of the most beloved and unfortunately the last actresses from the Golden Age of Classic Hollywood and from 1922 class. Here are some photos on her 102nd birthday, she looks very good in my opinion, she still continues to sign autographs (a few days ago)

Fun Fact: I read somewhere that she was chosen to play Old Rose in Titanic (1997), but she turned it down because she had retired from acting in the 1950s when she was still young, so her role went to the legend Gloria Stuart (who was also her friend)

Yes, a bit strange; he had his own singing number in the most famous musical movie of his time (albeit uncredited) and then nothing more is known about him.

I once read in a blog entry a few years ago that he had recently died, but of course not in a way that could really be verified. There are probably quite a few people called James Thompson.

In a weird way it's oddly specific but also not specific enough to give us any level of confirmation that he actually died when this person said he did...

Do you feel the need to leave an inane, pointless comment on every thread on here?

Legacy obit for American actor Bradford English (wiki), aged 82.

Perhaps best known for playing John Strode in Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers. Has an amusing death in that film.

Three Hollywood actors born in 1924 remain: Eve Marie Saint, Ted Hartley and Maria Riva.

Hope the last one standing is not Riva who is the most insignificant of them.

Looking into Ted Hartley (wiki) a little bit more...

It looks unlikely that he was actually born in 1924. I had always assumed this was accurate because his wife, Dina Merrill, was born in 1923, and most places online give his full name as Theodore Ringwalt Hartley. There are WWII records on Ancestry which match the purported name and date of birth.

HOWEVER, digging a little deeper, there is practically no mention of Hartley ever serving in WWII online. His personal website features an article from 1999 which gives his age age as 64. That would gibe us a birth year of 1934 or 1935.

BUT, here's an article on the newly weds from 1989. It gives his age as 59, suggesting a birth year of 1929 or 1930.

Various articles refer to him as T. R. Hartley or Theodore Hartley, so it's safe to assume that Theodore R. Hartley is indeed correct. However, I think the "Theodore Ringwalt Hartley" is somebody else.

Would be great to solve this once and for all, but I suspect he was born between 1929 and 1935.

Found two census records, one for a Theodore R. Hartley born around 1925 in Nebraska (but living in Iowa), and the other of a "Teddy Hartley" born around 1934 in Omaha, Nebraska. Furthermore, there is also a residence record for a Theodore R Hartley born in November 1934, who lived in Los Angeles during the 70s (Hollywood?) and New York in late 1980s. I think it's him, as Merrill lived in NY most of her life and the pair married in 1989.

There's an alumni newsletter from the Naval Academy on his website that lists him as "Ted Hartley '46". Cross-referencing with the other names at the bottom of the piece, the years refer to when we know they graduated the Academy (1980 for Montel Williams, 1968 for Jim Webb). It says he was "appointed" to the Academy at the age of 16, but you can't start studying there until you're at least 17 (assuming the rules now are the same they were then). The maths aren't mathing here, as the kids say.

EDIT: To muddy the waters even further, we know (or at least are told) he was in a plane crash in 1964 that forced him to give up a military life. This bio of him on an art gallery website from earlier this year gives his age at the time of that accident as 30, so a 1934 birth.

I looked into him last year. He was 100% born in 1924. Here he is in 1946:

image.png.e33511a74f130e84d7cf837528be9ad9.png

His old website had photos of his father Eugene and his sister Mary, which matches the above 1930 Iowa census. In 2022, he said his father "died suddenly when I was five years old". If you take him as literally as possible, this still rules out any DOB later than 1926/1927 (Eugene C. Hartley died in April 1932).

There's a birth notice for him in the Omaha World-Herald, November 9, 1924: "A son was born Thursday at the Omaha Maternity Hospital to Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Hartley. Mrs. Hartley was formerly Miss Dorothy Ringwalt." If you look at those records for Ted Hartley in California, they give his date of birth as November 6, 1934, so an exact match for this birth notice... outside of the fact that it's a decade off.

Played Henry Bowers (as an adult) in the classic IT movie.

The actors are all getting on in age and could be worth a look in the next round of Deaths of the Silver Screen.
