Benn There, Done It?

Recommended Posts

You need a sense of humor with a name like

Anthony Neil Wedgwood Benn

No wonder he shortened it !

With a name like that, I can only imagine what his schooldays must have been like.

Congratulations on your 1000th post, Mr Notapotato!

I trust you will receive your promotion soon.

Do we get subtractions from the total for being off topic (like this) ?

:(

I usually delete my less lucid and most off-topic posts the morning after making them.

This doesn't affect the post total, but has been known to cause some confusion.

I hope this answers your question.

And explains why this post, and yours will have vanished tomorrow :P

Footy fan: his schooldays were largely untroubled because the Peregrines, Eustaces, Ruperts and Ebeneezer's people the public school took most of the stick.

Didn't he let a homeless person live in his garden shed for a bit? Perhaps that was someone else.

I think that was this man.. Although I assume that Tb is kind to those who live alongside him in £3 million houses in Holland Park and would not dream of sullying his impecable socialist credentials by objecting to anyone who wanted to doss down in his front garden.

One of those pupils was Michael Flanders of 'Flanders & Swann' (Mud Glorious Mud) who was a friend of Benns.

Don't bother to look if he's still alive, he died in 1975.

One of Benn's pals from Oxford was the more normal sounding David Butler (psephologist of election night specials from 1950s - 1970s - still alive)

I should imagine that Flanders and Swann knew each other very well. They could even have been very good friends.

He might be forthcoming in a BBC documentary this month but this website is still promising new content for 2005!

I presume it's Michael Cockerell finally getting round to a profile...

I hope it will not be but reading this does suggest that Tony Benn would be a good 2014 pick.

I will be sad too when he goes as he is one of the only politician`s to stay true to his beliefs! I was channel flicking earlier and saw an interview with him on BBC parliament in which he looked and sounded quite well however that b interview is probably a few years old if the info in my link is correct!

I had no idea that the benn family had been members of parliament for nearly 150 years. I think that is a unique record I don't think any other MP has a similar political family and legacy like that .

I know I have previously recommended them but his diaries are excellent reading whether you agree with him or not. Little snippets like Margaret Thatcher crying at Eric Heffer's funeral and the bits where he described his own wife's deaths made me cry buckets.

Reports are coming in that former labour cabinet minister Tony Benn was rushed to hospital on wednesday. There is no word on his condition, althugh the fact they've only mentioned it now may not be good news...

A recent Tony Benn interview, which he ends by giving his thoughts on dying. He's still smoking a pipe and is very alert mentally, but he doesn't look or sound at all well.

Sorry to say, but he could be a good DL 2014 pick.

Heard that and thought along the same lines. My long list just got a little longer. I'm thinking DDP more than anything. Physical frailty and mental agility on this level is an HPDP bitch when the points depend on the order in which they go (death by stroke in January, gradually crumbling to a slow demise in December...either could take him).
