Guest Chicken Little Posted February 8, 2006 Maidenhead in Kent. Ironic - there hasn't been a virgin in Kent in years. No but there is a "Badger's Mount" in Kent, also "Upper Dicker" & "Lower Dicker". "Cockfosters" at the end of the tube line. I always thought it would be amusing if onboard a train pulling in to the station to be asked by a tourist "Excuse me is this Cockfosters" to which I would reply no it's mine! (Playground joke from the eighties)
The Pooka 26 Posted February 8, 2006 It's amazing what threads are actually on here if you root around enough. Anyway, over in the next county from me (Dorset), there are two villages called Piddletown & Puddletown, which never failed to make my sister & I piddle ourselves laughing as kids when we drove past the road signs. Dorset is full of strange places: Piddlehinton and Piddletrenthide - both on banks of the River Piddle. Downstream are Tolpuddle, Puddletown and Affpuddle. They changed from 'Piddle' in Victorian times. Not far away is Shitterton - that has changed to Sitterton on two occasions in response to the sensibilities of some locals. Now got its 'h' back. It made me giggle on me holidays too. Also Ryme Intrinsica; Sixpenny Handley; Whitchurch Canonicorum and Toller Porcorum. Beats Newtown, I suppose.
