MadMac 98 Posted December 17, 2005 Happy 78th Birthday to this grand stalwart of British TV and radio, who was apparently ill last year. Possible outside bet for 2006?
Cerberus 302 Posted December 17, 2005 I was thinking of featuring him in a "quiz show presenters" thread. David Coleman, Magnus Magnusson, Derek Batey, a lot of them are getting on. Magnus had to remain seated when he was on "The Weakest Link" recently.

maryportfuncity 10,647 Posted December 19, 2005 Surely, RR is younger than Batey, what's the state of play with Mr Mr and Mrs? As for Coleman he was a fearsome athlete in his day and a regular runner well into late middle age. My guess is his cardio-vascular system is well put-together so he might go on into very old age. maryportfuncity 10,647 Posted December 19, 2005 Derek Batey still seems pretty active. We should probably leave him out for the time being.
Lady Die 63 Posted December 19, 2005 Back on the subject of RR, weren't the families on Ask the Family dreadful? "Mr Middleclass who's a librarian, Mrs Middleclass who's a teacher and their children Tarquin aged 14 and Crispian aged 12." And they all wore NHS glasses. And what was the implication in lumping together the "mother and youngest child" for some questions?

And what was the implication in lumping together the "mother and youngest child" for some questions? I think you answered that one. Obviously they were supposed to be the thickest. I've forgotten the theme tune. Can anyone hum it?
Lady Die 63 Posted December 19, 2005 It was a rhetroical question! I can't remember the music either. But the logo thing at the beginning either looked like a vase or 2 faces depending how you looked at it. And they always had a photo of an object taken from a strange angle and it turned out to be a drawing pin or something. I'm getting quite nostalgic..... Godot 149 Posted December 19, 2005 It's not working for me. Every time I try to hum the tune it comes out as University Challenge and what's more, when it starts, there's Bamber Gascoigne. Weird
Anubis the Jackal 77 Posted December 20, 2005 Something like 'Bing-de-bing, Bing-de-bing, Bing-de-bingbing-de-bingbing-de-bing' as I recall.
