I didn't want to get sued or anything so I vanished quickly but her mother

did come running out calling me an asshole and to watch where I was going.

I said a quick sorry and fled.

:crossbone: You go, Banshees!

Rising could mean many things? Couldn't it?

As this appears to be a day for lists, thought I'd post what the The Hits programme I mentioned here decided were the top 20 rock deaths*. Thought this thread the most appropriate posting place**:

20. Michael Hutchins, INXS: suicide and/or accident via sex act

19. Shannon Hoon, Blind Melon: OD

18. Cozy Powell, Rainbow: car crash as a result of talking on his mobile whilst driving

17. Phil Lynott, Thin Lizzy: drugs

16. Ian Curtis, Joy Division: suicide via hanging himself

15. Steve Clark, Def Leopard: drank himself to death

14. Three of the Ramones, The Ramones: cancer, cancer, OD

13. Keith Moon, The Who: OD

12. John Bonham, Led Zepplin: choked on his own vomit

11. Layne Staley, Alice in Chains: OD

10. Jimi Hendrix: choked on his own vomit

9. Randy Rhoads, Ozzy Osbourne's guitarist: plane crash whilst playing a practical joke

8. Freddy Mercury, Queen: AIDS

7. Jim Morisson, The Doors: Heart Attack

6. Joe Strummer, The Clash: Heart Attack

5. Bon Scott, AC/DC: choked on his own vomit

4. Sid Vicious, Sex Pistols: OD

3. Cliff Burton, Metallica: Tour Bus Crash

2. Dimebag Darrel, Pantera/Damageplan: shot by nutter whilst performing on stage

1. Kurt Cobain, Nirvana: suicide via shooting himself

Of more relevance to this forum, the pundits on the programme were asked the following: Who's off to rock heaven next? The responses were (more-or-less) as follows:

Marylin Manson - because he's done everything now, so what's left?

Keith Richards - because come on!

Sinead O'Connor

Shane MacGowan

Pete Doherty x2 - because he's now 26 years old (referring to the 27 Club)

Cheeky Girls/Simon Cowell - please!

McFly - please! Somebody just sort them out...

When asked who will live the longest, the following responses were given:

Keith Richards x3 - because how is he still alive?

Axle Rose

Ozzy Osbourne - because he's survived pretty much everything, plus he's the Prince of Darkness

Slash

Lemmy

Of course, I don't think any of the above was based on rigorous, scientific investigation...

*I hope I got all the names and bands right. I don't really listen to rock music... ;)

**I'd like to point out that a gardening-related death was, in fact, mentioned on the programme. :P

I don't think any of them will die anytime soon. Keith Richards is the best bet and will probably live into his 70's. Pete Doherty just draws much speculation but will fail to die, Ozzy Osbourne like Richards will live and has survived even though it seemed he should have been dead long ago.

Watched the program and enjoyed it ie+, but since when did 'Joy Division' become 'rock'????!!! Did I miss something along the line in the past 30 years? Do they have a secret album of blinding guitar solos and drums that would blow your eardrums out?? I think not, I was shocked to see Ian Curtis in there, I guess it was the researchers and one of them was a fan, if they were that hard pushed to find a 'Rock Casualty' surely 'Razzle' from Hanoi Rocks would be a contender before Curtis, especially as he was killed by Motley Crue lead singer Vince Neil, Vinnie was driving the car that crashed and killed Razzle.

Supposedly Lemmy's doctor has told him not to give up smoking, taking Speed and drinking Jack Daniels as his body wouldn't be able to handle it.

A world away from Lemmy, I've just read that Teddy Johnson is 86 today. Part of a duo with his wife Pearl Carr, they represented the UK in Eurovision one year and were beaten out of sight. Anyone have a clue what state of health he's in? So far as I know the pair of them are still alive. Meaning, like Jim Callaghan and his mrs, they may go together someday, netting a points bonanza for any dead pool smart enough to call that shot.

Hardly. They came second.

Aye, apologies. I'd read the Wiki page wrongly, assuming their place at the bottom reflected their final position. I see the error of my ways now, they were second, five points behind the Dutch. You're obviously up on this VT, could you give us a quick run down of the good points of that musical gem that is 'Sing Little Birdie.'

Hardly. They came second.

After Teddy Scholten (b. 11 May 1926), who is, apparently, still with us. DL material? I have just added her to my list of future DDP candidates.

Hein

If the last few days have taught us owt it must be that some journalists are anoraks at heart and know their facts about the most obscure musicians. Therefore, everyone from a guy shouting 'Tequila' to an obscure operatic bozo gets a proper obit. So, if we're gonna score some decent hits a similar knowledge of nobodies who'll get a last gasp of fame right after their lasts gasps would serve us well.

There's loads getting old so any up to date information could be useful. I've just discovered that Preston Epps - b 1931 - arguably the world's leading bongo player, is still alive and - until recently - gigging. I suggest every DL'er watch their local press, and the entrance to day care centres, for creaky old musos. One I spotted last year was Cliff Hall, the West Indian guy formerly in The Spinners, just into his eighties but frail as hell ambling through a service station on the M11.

Maybe we could move the above to our Dead Pop Stars thread and I'll drop in this link to a decent site chronicling the mundane and insane ends of many rock musicians.

Bloody co-incidence this, today's featured article on The Wikipedia is on Selena; singer murdered by the president of her own fan club.

Suicide, or something nastier...all sorts of rumours surround Graham Bond, who caused severe delays to the Victoria Line at Finsbury Park.

I've owned a few of his later 'Magick' albums, some of which give Spinal Tap a run for their money in the 'arrant nonsense' stakes.

Some info about the man here:

http://music.yahoo.com/library/default.asp...o&add=&

Apparently obsessed with magick and had all kinds of allegations following him around, including paedophilia, ended up under a train completley mangled apart from the pentacle necklace around his neck..

yum! ;)

Twofer of all the occult Graham Bond sounds the average punter is likely to need. Yeah, a bit Spinal Tap for sure. Doesn't invoke any demons on the odd occasion I play it. The cat often decides to get up and wander out of the room mind.

I note that the site contains the following entry:

"Paddy Milligan (Patricia Milligan) - Died 2-?-2007 in London, England - Illness - Singer and actress - She was the 2nd wife of comedian Spike Milligan - Mother of actress, Jane Milligan."

... a little confusing, as she actually died in 1978! Any ideas where this confusion might have arisen from, or should we take this site with a pinch of salt?
