================================================================

np = No Problem

afk = Away From Keyboard

ttfy = Ta-Ta For Now

ttyl = Talk To You Later

brb = Be Right Back

bbl = Be Back Later

bbs = Be Back Soon

imho = In My Humble Opinion

lol = Laughs Out Loud / Laughing Out Loud

roflmao = Rolling On Floor Laughing My Ass Off

k / ok = ok

thx / tnx = Thanks

wb = Welcome Back

l8rm8 = Later Mate

btw = By The Way

ffs = For F**k Sake

a/s/l = Age, Sex, Location (generally frowned upon also you may get flamed for using this)....you have been warned !! :blink:

afaik = As Far As I Know

back = Back From brb, bbl or bbs (not exactly an abbreviation but it's polite to use it anyway)

j/k = Just Kidding

points of interest: usually these abbreviations are used in capitals, but it's up to the individual for the most part.

Also using capitals in a chatroom is commonly referred to as...SHOUTING !

It is also very common to shorten a chatroom members nick..for example...(Lady Grendel = LG, NotaPotato=NP, in eternum+ = ie+)

NOTE:

This is not an exhaustive list, there are lots more but this is certainly enough to get you started.

I hope you have fun, and I hope this helps.

See you all in the Deadchat.....

An excellent resource!

I am personally very grateful to the above-contributing geeks, for helping me to leave my chat-virgin self in the past.

BTW - my anorak still looks gorgeous, even though I haven't taken it off since it was given me.

I think we should also have a list of acceptable abbreviations for member names, since people tend to use those a lot...

I go by CP of course, but I don't want to be the one who sets the standard for other users...

I'm fascinated by the member name IKYWN. I wonder how that one would be abbreviated or is it already an abbreviation.

Google didn't help. Nor did the Member's User Names thread. Perhaps I should MMOB. :blink:

Think these can be safely ignored since Deathlisters are, by and large, very fussy about the use of proper punctuation and grammar. My very first post was criticised because I ahd dared to take the lazy "writing on the internet" option of DOING IT ALL IN UPPER CASE.

Milwall:

This was in reference to people using the CHAT room it has nothing to do with the Forum. It was put up (if you bothered to read what I wrote at all) because some of the users in the chat were asking what the abbreviations meant. Furthermore, what has my post got to do with you being criticised for shouting...that's not my fault.

That's not true, we regard them as sick and infirm and therefore stick the old codgers on the list. :P
