Broadcaster Keith Martin reportedly dead aged 89:

Pirate radio to continuity announcer to John Major's voice coach. Quite the career.

We miss a lot of these Pirate radio deaths on here but every month or so this website posts an update on their front page that includes recent passings.

Just saw this online - taken two years back. They're all still alive, actor James Darren, Wink Martindale and Frankie Avalon. Martindale was 90 in December, best known as a radio DJ in the states but obitable if only because his own version of Deck of Cards was a world wide hit

Nah, he's best known as a gameshow host in the US. His radio work was decades before that, and isn't as well remembered among most of the US.

Indeed, but I was more thinking of UK obit chances, a shoo-in on the back of his record storming our charts a couple of times

Fair play to cancer survivor Mark Radcliffe - he unveiled his own memorial bench and had it inscribed to indicate he STILL likes sitting there: https://www.theguardian.com/science/2019/nov/29/dj-mark-radcliffe-gets-bench-commemoration-while-still-alive

Radcliffe "pausing his radio work". Might be nothing, might not...

Quote

"Having been on the radio since the late industrial revolution I've decided to have a bit of time off. I'm getting on a bit now, and there are some things I want to do whilst I'm still (relatively) fit and active. So I'll be taking April and May off, if that's alright with you lot.

This break has nothing to do with the health problems I've had over the last few years. I am clear of cancer and feeling great, so please don't read anything sinister into it. I'm just going to do some stuff I want to do, and I'll be back in early June. Whether you want me or not! À bientôt."

This is what he said, almost as if to shut us up.

Aye, exactly the kind of message that makes sense to dead poolers - what posting name is he hiding behind on here?

Steve Wright dead at 69.

He was awarded an MBE in the New Year Honours List just gone, so he seems to be the speculated imminent faller from that.

Steve Wright's death still unregistered 3 months on.

Got to ask why? Am I reading too much into this or does that article subtly suggest he could have killed himself?

Well, the coroner would have to record such a verdict if he did, which hasn't happened. In other news, his two sons are fairly young orphans, then - his ex-missus also died suddenly a few years ago.

I do wonder if anyone who's been picked in a pool has ever commentated on this forum (or read it)...

Whispering Bob Harris talking about his recovery from prostate cancer at the Test match in tribute to Bob Willis. Looking and sounding pretty good.

He said that he had prostate cancer around 15 years ago, they caught it early and he has recovered. He sounded and looked fine to me.
