Monoclinic 39 Posted May 29, 2007 Not that i've got anything against disabled people, but the Paralympics f**k me off a bit. don't get me wrong, i'm all for equality and all that, but - i mean, take the 100 metres for example. The guy in second place has got a wooden leg and a concrete hip or something, and the bloke in 1st has got a sore thumb and a toothache. wheres the f*****g equality there? Aye, it's all a fix. Just like the Special Olympics Non-competitive sports days ring any bells? Meanwhile in my rant fest I have yet another thing to enter into room 101 and this is a little delicate... It's the Catholic church, or more's to the point their money management. Let me explain. I have just had a lovely holiday in Italy which naturally involved seeing lots of churches to check out the famous masterpieces (why on Earth the turtles turned to crime fighting I'll never know). Artwork is far far removed from my comfort zone but what I do know is that all this marble and gold and priceless paintings could probably feed Africa for a millenium. Okay a slight exaggeration but it just seems wrong that you have so many people (I think of Albanian or Romany origin)outside the churches begging when inside it is like Lex Luther's private museum. I believe there was a parable about a little old lady that donated all she had and that it was worth more than the donations of the rich. Shouldn't these churches therefore be following such an example and donating all that they have? Bible scholar needed here to answer this dilemma methinks. If you go to the big cities in Italy it isn't just the Cathedral but many other churches that possess such riches. Maybe they could sell off a few things to help fund a charitable scheme? As long as they don't flood the market of course! I hope no-one finds this offensive, if so I apologise. I certainly have no problem with the religion just the monetary aspect! Windsor 2,235 Posted May 30, 2007 Cardinal Keith O’Brien. Who the hell does he think he is? He is holding democracy at ransom over the issue of abortion. I would remind him that abortion is a choice. He and his Catholic mate can keep their kids. However, the rest of us who are no-doubt bound for hell anyway should be able to abort our unwanted children. Unfortunately Alex Salmond has given him the time of day. If I'm not mistaken, the National Socialists of 1933 also made deals with the Catholic Church... Besides, O'Brien is only doing it for the children - if you know what I mean. (This is not sectarian. I'm an atheist)

This wouldn't be a problem if once in a while people used their heads. The solution to these heated and personal debates is to be aware and follow the rules that have been clearly drawn out for decades. I mean if you don't want kids, don't have them. I don't really need to break it down beyond that. Maybe if people thought twice about their actions, and took into consideration the consequences just possibly this world would be a better place. Compare with the Virginia Tech tragedy, just maybe if people were nice to each other, those things would never happen.
Godot 149 Posted May 31, 2007 Well I think I'm with the Cardinal. What right have we to take a life in the womb? Shouldn't an unborn child have rights?
Windsor 2,235 Posted May 31, 2007 Well I think I'm with the Cardinal. What right have we to take a life in the womb? Shouldn't an unborn child have rights? Yes - it has the right to remain silent until the doctors come. If you ban abortion, there will be an increase in unwanted children. Surely that can't be a good thing. If you are familiar with Jeremy Kyle et al., how many of those knobs blame their problems on a bad childhood? Perhaps this link is too simplistic but perhaps you can see my point? A ban on abortion will probably also see an increase in children being institutionalised or placed in care. That is not an ideal solution. People do not have abortions for fun or as a pastime. They have them when they need them. When they have no place in their life for a child. That is why abortion should not be banned. Besides - I'm more pissed off at the fact that the Church is poking its nose into politics again. If their God is that great, let him strike with divine intervention... Handrejka 1,911 Posted May 31, 2007 I'm with Windsor on this issue. Also, how many Catholic Priests are ever likely to need an abortion? Exactly. Perhaps when they grow a womb and give up celibacy they can tell me what to do with my body but not until then. Also it's very naive if you think banning abortion is going to stop them taking place. Lady Die 63 Posted May 31, 2007 If you are familiar with Jeremy Kyle et al., how many of those knobs blame their problems on a bad childhood? Perhaps this link is too simplistic but perhaps you can see my point? After watching Jeremy Kyle I think the time limit for abortions should be increased to 21 years. And I think Catholic priests should mind their own sanctimonious business (I am an atheist too)
Windsor 2,235 Posted May 31, 2007 If they introduce a ban of abortion in Scotland, people will simply seek treatment on the English side of the wall or go private. The problem here is that the richer people will go largely unaffected but the poorer will have another mouth to feed. I'm led to believe that in Ireland, the ban in abortion has been eased by the presence of the Catholic church who are waiting in the wings ready to take in unwanted babies. Thus the theological poison enters their brain early. It's all a conspiracy I tell you! If you think it is bad now, think how it will be when more Eastern Europeans swarm in. They have already made an impact on the Catholic Church in Scotland. They will give the Catholic Church even more power, especially if Cardinal O'Brien keeps up his political pressure. Not long now until the next civil wars in Britain...
Banshees Scream 110 Posted May 31, 2007 Yo Han') I think your missing the point. Obviously Catholic Priests won't be seeking abortion. They are trying to preach the crime of it, and are attempting to banish it from the lives of women period as it robs human life on earth, and on top of that is not apart of the Christian religion. I'm with Windsor on this issue. Also, how many Catholic Priests are ever likely to need an abortion? Exactly. I've heard this name, I don't know who it is - and I don't care but I've seen examples of screwed up childhoods and the role it plays later in life for many of these subjects. It transforms into mental illness or some set back for some of these people but optimistically I believe they can be helped by attending a psychiatrist three times a week. Or a personal shrink in their lives. If you are familiar with Jeremy Kyle et al., how many of those knobs blame their problems on a bad childhood? Completely your opinion. I mean that is out of nowhere and almost like a politically persuasive slurr that is dismissed easily. Over exaggeration. A ban on abortion will probably also see an increase in children being institutionalized or placed in care. That is not an ideal solution.

Just another reason to hope Jocky McSporrin & Co. get their wish, full scale devolution goes through, and then England can rebuild what's left of Hadrian's Wall, except this time do it Israeli style. I'm not missing the point, you are missing my point. A catholic priest is never going to have to make the decision to abort, therefore they are not in a position to preach to me about it. They and all other so-called pro-life (pro-life that's a laugh, I used to get death threats from that lot at Uni ) can keep their nose out of my business. I'm not a Christian so a preist probably won't care anyway what I do with my feotus, they only care about the ones they can corrupt. Also BS, where I am abortion is not a crime and I hope it stays that way.

Banshees Scream 110 Posted May 31, 2007 I assume Cricket is something like the British version of baseball. As I've hinted before I'm a big MLB fan and I'm actually a yahoo fantasy addict. In most sports here, they run through rain and snow and if during a game it rains, they put the tarp down until it gets more clear. I've never in my life heard of games being delayed on result of the sun. Especially if they make millions of dollars, I would leave them all out in the sun, let them f****n melt. Where is the passion for the sport they love? For certain individuals I think it lives in their wallet. Windsor 2,235 Posted May 31, 2007 (Not my motive in any sense) I don't care if Windsor and all of Scotland have abortions, that is truly irrelevant. I can't have an abortion. I don't produce eggs and lack a womb. The Catholic Church are simply anti-sex. There is no pleasing them. They are against artificial contraception. They are against abortion. They obviously hold a grudge because their posts prevent them for partaking in the fun (bar a certain Priest in Glasgow who probably helped to cover up a murder). I'm sure he had no problem with contraception. Cardinal O'Brien should be tackling problems in his own executive (the church) rather than threatening our executive (the parliament). I think I have made my point about religion and politics before (or was that somewhere else). Using the vote of the people for your own personal means is not proper representation. If they have personal strong issues on a topic, they should simply abstain. Then let the people judge next time round. I say boot out O'Brien and the General Assembly. If the monarch were to do as they have done in politics, they would have been long gone. The difference is that both churches hold more power.

I mean that's like saying don't wear a set belt in the car, if you crash into a telephone pole and get killed instantly god wanted it that way. It's a modern world and we don't live in 100 AD. Anubis the Jackal 77 Posted June 1, 2007 Having finally read the full story on the good Cardinal O'Brien, I am just as f*****g shocked as the Honourable Member for Fraserburgh. How dare that vicious sh*t bring Dunblane into the equation when talking about a womans right to choose what she does with her own body. Apologies for the intemperate language, but what a prize turd he must be to trample over the grief of a town like that.
