maryportfuncity 10,646 Posted September 23, 2006 Andy Fraser, one time bass player with Free is HIV positive, has been for a while. He suggests on his official site that he contracted it during lengthy treatment for cancer in his neck. Oddly no hospitals or doctors are blamed, and it did take him a while to come out as gay. Was news to his wife and kids when he did! Either way, he's active promoting some re-issues of Free but, one to watch.

maryportfuncity 10,646 Posted September 23, 2006 Wasn't that title supposed to be ironic because the whole band were bordering on midgets?

Tempus Fugit 214 Posted September 23, 2006 Does he really warrant his own thread? Is he likely to die soon? If not then who cares. He probably cares Yep, that's true. I apologise for my grouchy post. Still people can live with being HIV positive for years and years, just look at "Magic" Johnson, 15 years and still going.
maryportfuncity 10,646 Posted September 23, 2006 Indeed Tempus, I take yer point about longevity. Mind, recent pictures of Andy Fraser show a very thin man. TBH I put his own thread out partly to attract comment in the hope someone would know more. On the evidence of it catching traffic fairly quickly there's a few people out there with fond memories of a somewhat overlooked band. I've heard rumours that he was prone to Freddie Mercury type partying off and on which would mean he's probably more likely to peg out soon than Magic Johnson. Guest Jack Posted May 2, 2014 Andy says he contracted HIV while being treated for Kaposi Sarcoma.Probably he was not aware of the fact HIV patients end up with Kaposi sarcoma during a late stage.I guess he may not have been aware he was HIV positive till then. Its great to know he suyrvived so long with HIV like a few many. maryportfuncity 10,646 Posted November 24, 2016 Re the death There's an Andy Fraser who rejoices in the recording name of Unlucky Fried Kitten and sounds nowt like the dead guy. But - friend of a friend - the occasional numpty finds him online and assumes the first one got fat and changed style.
