VSBfromH 74 Posted May 22, 2006 Lee Jong-Wook, as mentioned, all so briefly, in the Ideas & Possibilities thread, has died. He was head of the World Health Organisation, and was 61 years of age. WHO?
Octopus of Odstock 2,198 Posted May 22, 2006 WHO? I did the same joke in the other thread VSBfH. Either great minds think alike, or we have the same appalling taste in comedy.
Bennett_Cerf 2 Posted May 22, 2006 The news media here ran an absolutely ghastly photograph of Lee Jong-Wook. I do not believe his family had given approval of it, no, I most certainly do not.

Cowboy Ronnie 78 Posted May 23, 2006 Lloyd Bentsen , prominent U.S. politician. (Take my word for it, he's famous enough to be noted here ) And he was mentioned more than once in the ideas and possibilities for '06 thread. I believe he was discussed at the selection meeting too. Drat, bit of an annoying miss that one.

Octopus of Odstock 2,198 Posted May 24, 2006 Eric Bedser, brother of the legendary Sir Alec, and a superb county cricketer in his own right, has died, aged 87. Obit I'm not a huge cricket fan, but even I've heard of the Bedser Brothers.

BrunoBrimley 86 Posted May 25, 2006 music promoter Ian Copeland as died at 55 That is clearly wonderful news unless of course he was your promoter Iani. Did you mention him because your names are similar or because it was the right thing to do and a tasty way to do it?

Lady Die 63 Posted May 26, 2006 the well known Jamaican musician Desmond Dekker has died.He was Bob Marleys predecessor as most well known reggae artist and was famoous for the song 'Israelite' among others I love that song (Israelites) even though I can't make out a single word he's singing. According to this he lived in Surrey. For some reason I find that a bit incongruous.

I can understand the words now ... but still have no idea what he's singing about! It would appear that he is relating a tale of hard labour, abutting the edges of slavery so as to feed his family. In the second verse his wife seems to leave him, taking the young ones with her. In verse three, it appears as if he has turned to a life of crime and is robbing of all things animals or crops from the farm. In the closing stanza it appears that he may be incarcerated and not sure who will benefit from his labour. Throughout the morose ditty, he alleges himself to be of Israeli descent. The Pooka 26 Posted May 26, 2006 For all his whingeing about slaving for bread etc. surely he knew that he'd get it if he really wants. The aficionado would argue that the Israelites was pretty easy to understand compared to some songs: You think I never see you when you jump over de wall You think I never see you when you accidently fall me said a it mek - mek you pop yu bitta gall a it mek - while you accidently fall a it mek - hear she crying fe ice water aah -aah- aah I check you out and you're cold, girl I dig you out and you're cold, girl rock it to me children I told you once and I told you twice Wha' sweet nanny goat a go run him belly good me said a it mek - mek your pop yu bitta gall a it mek - while you accidently fall a it mek - hear she crying fe ice water It certainly makes me pop my bitter gall. Bennett_Cerf 2 Posted May 26, 2006 Mahmoud Majzoub leader of Islamic Jihad in Sothern Lebanon has died from wounds from a car bombing. BBC article. Oh gracious; but. this is simply terrible news, mortally terrible. How can you offer a post of this nature and not tell us the make and model of the automobile? Was it the same sort as the late Raflk Harriri was detonated in? One thing however has become through all of this most abundantly clear, Lebanon is not a safe place to drive.
