The Bible

The good news is that about 2000 years ago Jesus Christ(God the Son) paid for our past, present and future sins by dying on the cross so that we can go to Heaven when we die.

Would somebody mind explaining this to me in words of one syllable or less?

God good, sin bad?

:(

I'm sorry to contradict you, CP, I'm pretty sure that Sinbad wasn't a Bible character.

No Notapotato. But I will explain this to you.

- He is claiming that 2000 years ago Jesus died for us, and is speaking in a slightly sarcastic tone.

- He may believe in reincarnation.

- He seems like a Christian.

Ok.

It's been a long time since the (some say false) son of God was nailed up on a cross to die. Some say he did this for us so that we are sin free in God's eyes. That way, as we are sin free, we get to go to a good place when we die, like good boys and girls. Yay!

Christ. It's hard to dumb things down to one syllable.

I hope that helps N/Pot

Perhaps slightly off topic, but in the same vein and here because I don't think it's worth a new thread, Pat's been hearing things again.

I'll first answer Morbidkids morbid curiosity by saying yes I believe in God and am always taken aback at the absolutism of ridiculous comments like that of Terry Pratchett above that says it's either/or with science and God. I find those (and of course I'm speaking to 97% of the populace) who can't find juxtaposition between science and God as small-minded and static.

I'd suggest--as to creationism--that Pratchett watch the movie God Is Dead (who's Producer died of ALS this year as we discussed his obitability). Oh wait he can't he's dead. Anyway it provides a plausible explanation that allows science and God (Biblical explanation) to co-exist, and in fact support each other.

That said, if this Canadian is correct about a Mantis God, it could throw a monkey wrench into the discussion.

A man has found fossil evidence/proof of Noah's flood -- in his Texas backyard.

Glad that mystery is solved once and for all.

Arkansas state officials said a man drove his car into a 6-foot-tall statue of the Ten Commandments in Little Rock on Wednesday morning, less than 24 hours after the monument was installed on state Capitol grounds.  Capitol police arrested Michael Tate Reed, 32, of Van Buren, Ark.  Less than four years ago, the man rammed his truck into a Ten Commandments statue of a similar design at the Oklahoma state Capitol in Oklahoma City.

This got me to thinkin...:
Would Arkanses be able to make an insurance claim if Mr. Reed was driving a Sirocco?
"Yes, our statue was hit by a Sirocco'.
- Sorry that's an Act of God.

"Well, no, it wasn't God. It was this guy."
- Are you saying there was no God?
"Not in this case"
- This negates the message on the statue.

A father in North Las Vegas is dead after his son stabbed him in the chest and then blamed a"sinful world," police say.

In a newly-released police report, North Las Vegas police say Ezekiel Dwayne Collins stabbed his father on February 12 after an argument in the kitchen.

Collins had said he was tired of hearing voices and picked up a kitchen knife. Someone in the room told him they would call police.

Collins handed them the phone and said, "You can call police because by the time they get here the mission will be finished."

The report goes on to say Collins and his father began fighting. Police say he stabbed his father multiple times then walked out of the house.

An officer found Collins walking nearby with his "fists balled and a crazed look on his face."  The officer then ordered Collins to get on the ground. He complied and said, "I'm guilty."  Collins was injured and had cuts on his left palm, according to the report. As they waited for paramedics, he was recited bible verses and told the officer he was a prophet.  When she asked him what happened, Collins responded by saying "Proverbs 228."

The report goes on to say, when asked why he stabbed his father Collins said "Sinful world. It must happen."
