Movie Stars - Two Trilogies?

Recommended Posts

An open-ended trivia question came up over the weekend. Can you name any actors or actresses to appear in all three (or more) films in two different movie trilogies. An example would be Harrison Ford - first three Star Wars and Indiana Jones x 3.

No Googling, and only one name per post please. There are at least ten.

Well, helloooh. My dear chap, I graced the silver screen in Carry on Nurse, Carry on Teacher and Carry on Constable, then showed my considerable range by starring in Doctor in Love, Doctor in Clover and Doctor in Trouble.

Bruce Willis in the Die Hard films and the voice in the Look Who's Talking films? This might not be right, as I haven't googled!

But of course I couldn't keep my eyes off Johnny Depp

John Wayne - the 'cavalry' trilogy and a sh*t-load of two reelers in the thirties playing the same character(s).

Do we include porn. Not that I know much about it, but there have to be loads in that area that'd count.

I am trying to think of a Potter actor. First I thought I was on to a winner with Alan Rickman then remembered a key point that he died in in the first Die Hard film- haven't seen the others but guessing he is not in them.

So my call is for Mel Gibson in Lethal Weapon and Mad Max.

I will continue to ponder over Potter!

OK, early scores on the doors

points for:

Sly Stallone - Rocky & Rambo

Bruce Willis - Die Hard & Talking (this gets a bonus point, because who even knew there was a third "Look who's Talking" film?)

Orlando Bloom - Pirates and LOTR

Mel Gibson - Mad Max and Lethal Weapon (such a solid answer we got it twice)

Mike Myers - Shrek and Austin Powers

Patrick Stewart - Star Trek & X Men

Frank Oz - Muppets and Star Wars

Clint Eastwood - at first I wasn't going to give this, because some people claim he's not the same character in The Good, The Bad and The Ugly and it's a different plotline than the two Dollars films, but having read wiki's summary I'll take it as a trilogy, and the original question didn't specify it had to be the same character

For that reason, I guess we'll allow Leslie Phillips, whom I imagine played different characters in the Carry On and Doctors films (or did he? I've never seen either). Interestingly, he almost makes it a hat trick as he gets a voice credit in the first two Harry Potter films.

Points in the bank but not yet handed out for Matt Damon (Oceans 11-13) until the third Bourne film comes out.

Sadly, nul points for:

Richard O'Sullivan - I'll take a wild guess and conclude that nomination was tongue in cheek

John Wayne - not convinced he's been in any trilogies, but if MPFC could expand on what he means by the Cavalry trilogy....that's still only one

Jamie Lee Curtis - there's (thankfully) only been two Fish Called Wanda films

There are a few more (including a woman, and it's very gettable) which I'll reveal once everyone is well and truly bored of this thread, so could be anytime then.

Without wiki'ing it or googleing, is Eddie Murphy in there for Shrek and Beverley Hills Cop?

Oh yes, good one. And how many movies has he been in as Prof. Klump now - isn't it about 3 or 4? So does Murphy have a triliogy of triliogies (or does that not count as At Home With the Klumps is more a spin-off?

Anyway, two more for thought here:-

Christopher Lee (Hammer (probably a few within that), Sherlock Holmes (i think), Star Wars (I think, but I think he was only in 2 of the latest 3), Lord of the Rings (and maybe a few more??)

Sir Ian McKellen (deffo LOTR, but has he been in all 3 X-Men?)

AH!!! I know who the lady is.

(But I have had to resort to Wiki to confirm so alas I will not take points & name her here)

For everyone else, put it this way, I was looking at Cowboy Ronnie's avatar & thinking if that actor had been in another trilogy...

Ian McKellan was in all the three X Men, so that's a point for triple O. Christopher Lee gets there as well, but as far as I can tell only via Dracula and Fu Manchu, as his scene was cut from the final LOTR film (although is apparently in the extended DVD version). I think he was only in 2 Sherlock Holmes films, and just the final two Star Wars abominations films.

I think as a tribute to the pantheon of Oscar-worthy material old Chris has churned out over the years he'll get a long look from the DL Committee for 2008. Curiously, at six foot five wiki/Guiness Book of Records claims he's the world's tallest leading actor, tied with Vince Vaughan. Has there never been a leading actor taller than this? Sounds suspiciously like bullsh!t to me.

Could you count Bruce Willis for the Die Hards and the three films he did with M.Knight Shaymalan (sic?), which are a sort of trilogy aren't they?

People have the strangest websites...

There's a few actors on this list! I'll leave you to ponder who is the tallest and whether they ever played a leading role.

Based soley on my interpretation of your original question Leslie Philips should only count if he has been in all the carry on films surely? He may well have done I don't know. Or does this mean we could also look at James Bond films and other long running series for people that have been in at least of said three movies?
