Sir Creep 7,070 Posted June 19, 2015 John David Crow Jr., Bear Bryants only Heisman Trophy winner (I don't know what it means), dead at 79: http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2015/06/john_david_crow_bear_bryants_o.html I can help here. The Heismann Trophy is awarded to the 'best college football player' each year. Bear Bryant and the Alabama football program being one of the best, it is therefore a bit of an oddity that he only coached 1 winner of the Heismann, basically, considering all the talent he coached, including Joe Nameth et al. That's why they made a point of saying that.SC
Sir Creep 7,070 Posted June 20, 2015 Danny Villanueva, a Placekicker for the Rams and Cowboys in the mid 1960s, and most certainly one of the very few New Mexico State Aggies to play in the NFL, has died at 77 after suffering a stroke earlier this week. Sir Creep 7,070 Posted July 2, 2015 Sad couple of months to be a former Detroit Lion. Their teams 1970-76 sucked ass. About the only player worth a damn was Charlie Sanders, and like many boys growing up in the D in that era, he was a favorite player. RIP Charlie, sorry you didn't get to play on better teams, yet still made the HOF. Sir Creep 7,070 Posted July 18, 2015 Bill Arnsparger, who coordinated the "no-name defense" of the undefeated 1972 Miami Dolphins, died Friday, the team confirmed. He was 88. Born in Kentucky, Arnsparger was a graduate of Miami (OH) University and a World War II veteran. He saw his most success with the Dolphins, installing schemes that gained widespread popularity around football and winning Super Bowl VII after an undefeated season. He soon moved on to New York, where he coached the Giants from 1974-1976, before returning to work with Shula again in Miami. After spending a decade in the collegiate ranks as LSU's head coach and Florida's athletic director, Arnsparger returned to the NFL as San Diego's defensive coordinator in 1992, helping the team to an appearance in Super Bowl XXIX in 1995. Sir Creep 7,070 Posted August 4, 2015 Damn! The Carousel of Death that is following the Detroit and Chicago sports scenes continues to spin. Mel Farr was the starting RB when I first started watching football and the lowly Detroit Lions. He only lasted a few half-assed years, but ended up being a Farr better businessman than football player, turning his auto dealership into a top seller. I remember all the Mel Farr the Superstar adverts. Anyway, dead at 70. RIP SC

Sir Creep 7,070 Posted August 19, 2015 Mike Gaechter, a former Cowboys player during the early years of the franchise, died Monday of heart failure at his home in Dallas. He was 75. A defensive back, Gaechter appeared in 108 games during an NFL career that spanned eight seasons from 1962 to 1969. His name remains etched in the team’s record books after he ran back an interception 100 yards for a touchdown in a 1962 victory over Philadelphia that also featured a 101-yard kickoff return by Dallas’ Amos Marsh. By the time he walked away from football, he had picked off 21 passes. SC
