NFL all-time great Randy Moss has revealed he is suffering from a serious medical issue, asking for “prayers” and urging people to seek regular check-ups and blood testing.

"Throughout the week of the holidays, your boy has been battling something internal," Moss said in an Instagram video. "And I just ask for all the prayer warriors to put their blessing hands on me and my family through these hard times. ... I'm battling something, man, and it's something internal. Your boy's gonna get through it. I got a great team of doctors, and I got a great family around me. All you men, man, ya'll do your checkups and get your bloodwork done, and we'll work through it, alright? Thank you for the prayers."

 

Moss, 47, echoed the remarks in his introduction on "Sunday NFL Countdown," while sporting a pair of sunglasses. His comments -- and the use of the glasses -- came in response to fans speculating about his condition after video surfaced of Moss recently appearing on ESPN with a yellowish tint in his eyes.

 

Moss did not reveal the specific issue from which he is recovering.

Just a couple days later, Randy Moss announced he is stepping away from his ESPN analyst role to deal with this health challenge.

 

Certainly sounded like prostate cancer at first, given his message specifically to men to get regular check-ups. But now I'm seeing speculation online that it's pancreatic or liver cancer because of his yellow-ish eyes.

 

To the non-US users here (assuming y'all don't mark this thread as read) who are probably unfamiliar -- Moss is one of the most iconic NFL players of all time. Absolutely will get QOs across the board, not that there should be any doubt given several QO outlets already covered this health situation.

Moss (wiki) is arguably the best to ever play his position (wide receiver). He stepped away from a major television gig to address this health issue. By the way, Randy’s son is displeased his father’s illness is a topic of discussion.

Update - not a 2025 dash pick. Successful 6 hour op to remove a mass a few days ago.

 

Moss announced Friday that he had undergone a six-hour surgery to remove a cancerous mass from his bile duct, after earlier having a stent placed in his liver. He said he was hospitalized for six days and would be undergoing radiation and chemotherapy treatment

Read into it however you want, but I just watched back a few of the clips of longtime College GameDay broadcaster Lee Corso (previously mentioned in this thread in Nov 2022) on the college football Orange Bowl pre-show a few hours ago and he wasn't seeming all there mentally or physically, culminating in this bit where he was less walking and more propped up to get to the stage and then "dancing" (see: stumbling around a bit) until catching a corner of the chair with his leg and almost falling which likely would have been bad... He is 89, at the very least time to hang it up on appearing on TV? Or is continuing next year and beyond when bits like this are potentially involved how something eventually does go wrong? Probably wouldn't get much to any attention across the pond when he does go I would think, his coaching career was below average overall and it seems highly unlikely his longevity and uniqueness on GameDay alone would account for much. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

He might not be a dash pick, but I think his prognosis is probably pretty poor given publicly released information. He had a Whipple procedure. You can read more about that. Cholangiocarcinoma also has a poor prognosis, particularly if not localized.

Another NFL player I'm surprised survived 2024 is Lem Barney. I did not include him in DDP due to lack of news updates, but the news from 2023 was pretty grim.
