Well this kid sure got his prediction wrong. He is as inept as we are at predicting deaths! (To be fair, Sir John wasn't in the picture back when this prophecy was made.)

"Doctor Who's Tom Baker was told by a fan he will be the next Time Lord to die

Tom Baker was told he'll "be the next one to go" by a young fan

Former Doctor Who star Tom Baker has told how a cheeky young fan informed him he would be the next star of the long-running series to die.

The 79-year-old actor played the fourth Doctor for seven years after joining the series in 1974 and each of his predecessors - William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton and William Hartnell - has died.

He continues to be recognised by fans of the show, but was taken aback by the approach of one youngster who estimated his days were numbered.

Baker said: "Somebody said to me the other day, a smart-arsed kid, 'Actuarially speaking, you'll be the next one to go you know'.

"I said, 'How do you know that?'. He said, 'My father's in insurance, he's an actuary'. So I made a big effort and asked him if he was all right for money, and he said he was, so I offered him five pounds thinking there must be a vestige of shame in him.

"But there wasn't - he took the five pounds. I think he did say thanks, very quietly, and then he went.""

It would be kinda funny if the kid was run over by a bus on the way home ,in a sick kind of way.

Baker will probably outlive all of them now, including Tennant and Smith. :P

Breaking news: Capaldi's Doctor to go at the end of the year. No surprises there.

we just lost John Hurt, now Peter Capaldi. Sad days for Doctor Who fans !

I think Capaldi is probably my favourite of the new doctors, so sad to see him go.

Apparently the BBC want to recapture the glory days/mass appeal of the Tennant/Billie Piper era, so expect another young, pretty-boy actor and a lot of romance in 2018... <_<

(Not that I am against Tennant. I think the show actually "clicked together better once Billie left, though as the first few seasons were a bit rough. To me, David Tennant's take on the Doctor is that he is the Fifth Doctor done properly.)

There are so many things wrong with this post that I cannot adequtedly respond to while posting on a phone.

Im not.

The only time I bothered to watch a Capaldi episode Michelle Gomez was in it and completely out acted him.

She should be the next Dr Who.

I'm not really into Dr Who but from my youth I thought that a Time Lord had twelve lives?

Does that not mean that Dr Who is fucked now?

You are right but they fudged a convoluted workaround a couple of years ago to give him an indefinite number of lives, so the show will keep going as long as it can be milked now...

Here is a shortlist of contenders for the next Doctor, with bookmakers' odds: http://www.walesonline.co.uk/lifestyle/tv/contenders-replace-peter-capaldis-doctor-12531414

I'll go for Rupert, just because he is ginger. Is the Ben Whishaw bloke a good actor, though? I haven't seen him in anything. (I expect they'll choose some unknown who isn't on the list at this stage though.)

Whishaw is a good actor, he currently plays Q in James Bond. He did a series called London Spy which was pretty good too.

Not sure where else to put this so...

Charles Armitage, executive producer on Red Dwarf and co-founder of Grant Naylor Productions, has died. http://www.reddwarf.co.uk/news/2017/02/08/charles-armitage/

He was a grandson of Noel Gay.(Don't know who that is, look it up!)

Unconfirmed reports circulating on the internet say that 4th Doctor actor Tom Baker died a few days ago, aged 83. I would not post it if I didn't suspect there may be some credibility to the reports. We'll find out shortly no doubt.

Over the years I've been trying to piece together a list of Doctor Who living guest actors/producers. It'll never complete as there's always new episodes, and a lot of the bit parts from back in the day disappear without Dates of Birth or Death. However, for starters, here's the verifiable oldest and living Who guest stars, main cast, producers, directors, etc etc

  • Earl Cameron (b. 1917) - appeared in The Tenth Planet.
  • Arnold Yarrow (b. 1920) - appeared in Death to the Daleks.
  • Peter Sallis (b. 1921) - you know who he is. Appeared in The Ice Warriors.
  • Dudley Simpson (b. 1922) - composer
  • Gordon Sterne (b. 1923) - Also in An American Werewolf in London
  • Nicholas Parsons (b. 1923)
  • William Russel (b. 1924) - Ian Chesterton
  • Donald Pelmear (b. 1924) - Appeared in The Time Warrior.
  • Geoffrey Bayldon (b. 1924)
  • David Graham (b. 1925) - Voice of Parker and Brains from Thunderbirds. Also had memorable turns in The Gunfighters and City of Death.
  • Bill Sellars (b. 1925) - Co-created All Creatures Great and Small. Directed The Celestial Toymaker.
  • George A Cooper (b. 1925)
  • Morris Perry (b. 1925)
  • Ysanne Churchman (b. 1925)
  • James Garbutt (b. 1925) - Genesis of the Daleks
  • Laurie Webb (b. 1925) - Three Doctors
  • Andre Maranne (b. 1926) - better known from The Pink Panther series of films. Also, not dead yet, despite internet rumours.
  • Glyn Houston (b. 1926)
  • Geoffrey Palmer (b. 1927)
  • June Brown (b. 1927)
  • Frank Windsor (b. 1927)
  • Ken Dodd (b. 1927)
  • Mark Eden (b. 1928)
  • Terry Bale (b. 1928)
  • Donald Tosh (b. 1928) - Hartnell era script editor
  • Ian Frost (b. 1928) - The Ark
  • Paddy Russell (c. 1928) - directed The Massacre, Pyramids of Mars, Invasion of the Dinosaurs and Horror of Fang Rock
  • Moray Watson (b. 1928) - Black Orchid
  • Peter Cellier (b. 1928)
  • Peter Wyngarde (b. 1928)
  • Michael Craig (b. 1928) - you can watch this underrated classic era British actor struggle through Pip and Jane Baker dialogue in Terror of the Vervoids.
  • Georgine Anderson (b. 1928) - Gridlock
  • Colin Jeavons (b. 1929)
  • Steve Machin (b. 1929) - Dalek Master Plan
  • Frank Mills (b. 1929) - Terror of the Autons
  • Damaris Hayman (b. 1929)
  • David Fisher (c. 1929) - wrote Stones of Blood, Androids of Tara, City of Death (first draft) and Creature from the Pit. Now in very poor health in nursing home.
  • John Woodvine (b. 1929)
  • Clifford Rose (b. 1929)
  • Philip Latham (b. 1929)
  • John Nettleton (b. 1929)
  • Thelma Barlow (b. 1929)

Anyhow, time presses so that's the confirm-ably living ones which would qualify for those 20/20 games folk like to play. When I have more time I'll look at the living 1930s folk, there's a lot more of them. Also, I'm pretty sure there's at least 20 walk on parts still living aged 87 or older, but disappeared from view. Never mind, if they turn up, they turn up, and that list is all QO certs.

Paul Bettany's father was Thane Bettany, a former dancer turned actor, who portrayed Tarak in the Doctor Who story State Of Decay. He was 86. I can't find a direct link to his death, but Paul Bettany mentions it in this article from 31 December 2015: http://news.streetroots.org/2015/12/31/paul-bettany-homelessness-who-am-i-judge

Quote: "My father died recently. He was a very religious man. Whenever we passed a homeless person, he would always say, there but for the grace of God go I. And I love that sentiment. It’s an admission of how close we all are to slipping by the wayside."

Edit: This article from The Indy on 30 November 2015 indicates that Thane Bettany had just died. http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/films/features/paul-bettany-on-shelter-and-why-his-directorial-debut-is-about-homelessness-not-hollywood-a6754976.html

You did, YW, but I missed this at the time, and it seems to have missed much everyone else too. If it's from his own sons mouth, pretty true! List shall be edited.

A few lists of living actors from cult British SF. Tried for the twenty living actors who appeared in most episodes. Credited cast members only. There's a lot of actors out there with no dates who stopped acting decades ago, so stuck with those known to be alive.

*snip*

Doomwatch (in at least 2 episodes)

Victor Platt b. 1920

*snip*

Quatermass (1950s) (in at least one episode)

Note - Some of these I am dubious about being still alive.

Victor Platt b. 1920

Victor Platt died on 30 January, aged 96. https://www.thestage.co.uk/features/obituaries/2017/obituary-victor-platt/

Now here's one! Carl Conway, who was in the Who stories The War Machines and The Ambassadors of Death, apparently passed away in February, having long previously been reported as having died in 1992 by IMDB (presumably by the same joker who reported Andre Maranne's death). http://tobyhadoke.com/doctor-who/victor-platt-carl-conway-rip/

A former Radio Caroline DJ, other credits include Z Cars, The Saint and a fleeting appearance in Carry On Regardless.
