Do we bet? Or what ...

I've REALLY tried to do my homework before I registered here, but its all so INTERESTING ... one keeps getting sidetracked with amusing and interesting diversions, so I still haven't read all the "how it works" threads.

:D

There's been a lot of teasing around this year.

A lot of celebrities who went missing or were hospitalized this year turned out to be doing OK.

Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh was hospitalized earlier this year. It was "BREAKING NEWS" over in CNN; CNN seemed to hint that he was gonna die soon; being 86 and all, I thought he was gonna die, but he turned out to be a-OK.

Margaret Thatcher also was hospitalized. She's doing fine now.

Everybody was hyping up the "inevitable" death of famous Mexican musician Emilio, but he appears to be on track for full recovery.

Seems like no one famous wants to die. They all tease us with their hospitalizations and their disappearances, but they all end up not just okay, but doing rather well. It's kinda ticking me off.

This year, seems to be more celebrity near deaths than actual deaths themselves.

Let's put it this way, the only celebrity who has died lately since Charlton Heston that I have actually heard of was Deborah Palfrey, aka DC Madam. (I never really experimented with LSD so I had no clue who Albert Hoffman was.)

I have never really experimented with dynamite, but I know who Alfred Nobel was.

Don't really see the point in this thread. There is an ideas thread for people we think might die next year and relevant subthreads for footballers, blues musicians, African politicians, squid, ailing presidents, clerics, Hollywood stars, Dutch teaspoon manufacturers (probably), folk singers, people likely to die in an accident, war veterans, etc etc. Surely if someone ends up in hospital, there is already somewhere to post it?

And over here Banshees, it's hospitalised.

I'd quite like to see a thread discussing hospitalised squid or people who have been hospitalised by squid. Specialist, true, but interesting.

Well, first of all, Deathtrip, I felt the Ideas and Possibilities thread should be limited to just suggestions instead of posting every little stroke somebody has. I felt it wouldn't be a bad idea to 'categorize' the latest hospitalizations since 'who can be bothered to drag up the eleven threads you just named? I'm not taking away from the Ideas and Possibilities, I'm just limiting the thread to more valuable suggestions instead of near-death occurrences which might 'and might not' happen. Besides, isn't the Ideas and possibilities thread "For next year?" Isn't it? Shouldn't the thread be used more conservatively? Generally the people you suggest aren't really supposed to die 44 hours after you mention them. They aren't. I know your good at doing that 'but it's just not the dead thread'. Basically this thread should be used to report those between life and death.

And I'll spell hospitalized the way people from the United States spell it. Take no offense Devon, it's just if I started telling you 'I want to see honor spelled in your posts without the 'u' before the r - I'm sure you wouldn't do it.

I wonder if there's a Squid Hospital anywhere, you know, like we have Hedgehog Hospitals and Teddy Bear Hospitals.

I don't normally 'do' debate on DL, but I will make an exception in your case.

'who can be bothered to drag up the eleven threads you just named?

Why would anyone be more bothered to drag this one up?

Generally the people you suggest aren't really supposed to die 44 hours after you mention them. They aren't. I know your good at doing that 'but it's just not the dead thread'.

I throw you enough fish, Banshees (see everyone who has died on your DDP team so far) if you can't see past the red herrings, follow a different trawler.

Basically this thread should be used to report those between life and death.

What, everyone? I don't think James Garner is exactly at deaths door.

Mods - please could the spelling of the title of this thread be corrected? Corrected [HCW]

Edited by heaven can wait

Well, I'd like to see a thread for discussing hospitalised rugger-playing munchkins called Dick from Castle Bromwich who are mad about Beethoven, collect Dutch teaspoons and are related by marriage to Richard O'Sullivan.

Maybe Vaagheid could start one.

I really don't see the debate. I'm not evaluating your contribution Devon, we all appreciate the names you have given us over the length of time you have been here. The intense research you do 'is apart of everybody's DDP team' including mine, but that really has nothing to do with giving suggestions that croak in hours after you post them. Bring it here if you want to do that! Or wait until they are fit for the dead thread! It makes sense Devon. Save the real valuable prospects 'who might actually live until 2009) for the Ideas and possibilities thread. If you choose not to do that, that's fine with me. I just feel what I'm saying makes sense at some limitation.

As for the title of this thread - I'm from New York, I use 'ize'. If they want it changed, then they can change it. I have no control over that. It's just if I told you 'Devon, I'm American, so from now on I want to see honour spelled as 'honor' in your posts, you would be thinking 'f**k him' I spell words the way I was taught. That's my point, just don't tell me how to spell. Since this is a forum which mainly consists of a British population, I understand how that correction can go down.

I can imagine a need for one. In fact Mrs Godot says she has just found sick squid in a jar at home. At least I think that's what she said.

Gardening git Monty Don has had a 'minor stroke'. No idea if he's been hospitalised but I thought I'd try and make Mr Scream feel better by using his thread. Tum-te-tum...

I intend to take some gardening leave for the rest of the summer to make a full recovery and so that I am ready to tackle new projects.

I hate to be seen to be backing BS here, but a quick glance at the Oxford English Dictionary confirms that 'hospitalized' is the correct English spelling. However, I still don't see the point of the thread.

I'm somewhat in two minds myself, so mebbe I should be hospitalized. I'd be a complete hypocrite to criticise anyone for starting a thread but the one problem I have with this one is that so many themed threads exist it's likely that a hospitalized racing driver would go to the 'Phil Hill' thread, a hospitalized WW1 vet would go his thread etc.

Which leaves us with those so rare - like TV gardening experts - or the oddballs like Nicky Reilly, the mental defective and Halibut convert who blew off a chunk of his forehead in Exeter today.

I'm of the opinion we should let the thread try and survive, but it may well end up in the DL equivalent of intensive care before long.

Kelsey Grammer has mild heart attack

I hope he makes a speedy recovery. He had a pretty traumatic upbringing, and many family tragedies (father and sister both murdered, twin half-brothers killed whilst scuba diving, attempted suicide of his second wife), so it would be a shame if something as mundane as heart trouble were to do for him.

Libby from Neighbours has alledgedly landed herself in hospital after a flight.

What actually shocked me is that the article said Five's Neighbours. When did the BBC, student staple, day time soap move channels? I thought it was an institution. I must have been away too long.

Monty Don also suffers from this strange depression that strikes people in the winter. Something to do with the seasons and not enough sun. I'm sure somebody here will enlighten me.

Good one. Now I know I seem to say this about nearly everyone but I've heard Monty Don has also suffered anorexia in the past.
