Spade_Cooley 9,629 Posted January 4, 2011 I never picked him for anything ! I feel like a bum, humbled. Same here. But in my defense, I had never heard of him. Isn't "Baker Street" the most played song in the history of radio?
maryportfuncity 10,684 Posted January 4, 2011 As of 2009 the most played songs on UK radio were: 1. Procol Harum - A Whiter Shade Of Pale 2. Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody 3. Everly Brothers - All I Have To Do Is Dream 4. Wet Wet Wet - Love Is All Around 5. Bryan Adams - (Everything I Do) I Do It For You 6. Robbie Williams - Angels 7. Elvis Presley - All Shook Up 8. Abba - Dancing Queen 9. Perry Como - Magic Moments 10. Bing Crosby - White Christmas Still, don't feel too sorry for Rafferty. Baker St was thought to earn him around £80,000 on a good year. I'll drink to that!
Lard Bazaar 3,803 Posted January 4, 2011 Well he's certainly light in his head and dead on his feet now.

He was one of Scotland's most successful songwriters. I suppose you're too young to remember him... I am a bit more aware of who is he thanks to his obits. I have heard of some of his music. But if you were to mention his name, I wouldn't have been able to place him...until now.
Guest Guest Posted January 4, 2011 I was kicking myself for missing him on the DDP, so I put him first on my NDP...every cloud and that! I thought that the Dutch thing doesn't start until the 10th?

Rotten Ali 600 Posted January 5, 2011 I never picked him for anything ! I feel like a bum, humbled. Same here. But in my defense, I had never heard of him. What a shame to have lost Gerry Rafferty. But he made a half a dozen songs that were A1 classic fantastic. When I looked at the advanced issue of the 2011 at 11pm on the 31st Dec, I had the idea I had missed out on a decent pick. For me I'm sure he bouced about, just off the bottom of my 68 name longer list. I missed the news he was back in hospital and that news alone would have added 28 points to his scores - then he would have been in my 50 name list for sure! Well done the DeathList for it's choice. Spade_Cooley 9,629 Posted January 5, 2011 Man, look at the redness of Rafferty's face on that front page pick. I've never seen a man so crimson, not even 92-era Brian Clough.

Guest Guest Posted October 20, 2014 I wish there was some further news on Mr Rafferty. For some unfathomable reason I seem to be inordinately interested in Gezza's ongoing condition. Death's door or a comfortable middle and old age? Devon, come on man, help us out here - I've got some hot Fleetwood Mac goss, honest guv. He (I think) was on The One Show (I think) some time this week, I remember flicking on the TV and caught the very very end of the piece. They were in Exeter cathedral and I'm afraid that's about all I can say. For those more curious try looking it up on iplayer, it was definitely BBC1 as barring CNN it's the only English channel I can get. It was a feature on Raphael Ravenscroft, the saxophonist on Baker Street, there was no mention of our missing hero's whereabouts. Ok, I'm sorry for not paying attention keep up the good work. He is dead.

So he is. http://www.exeterexpressandecho.co.uk/Saxophone-legend-Exeter-resident-legend-Raphael/story-23270825-detail/story.html Rather strange obit which seems to be more about a dead 12 year old girl.
