I never knew about them rumours. Now you mention it he looks nothing like his dad and the rock doesn't look like his dad is full 100% black.

The rumours are that his real father was Lars Anderson. His mother definitely had an affair with Anderson, it's just whether the dates match up 100% or not.

Rock's mom is somewhat light skinned,if she had offspring with Lars Anderson it seems very unlikely the child would have Rock's skin color.

Bobby Kay, born Romeo Cormier, who wrestled largely in Canadian territories, has died.  He was 70.  Mostly he appeared under that name but had a run in the NWA Toronto territory as Terry Kay.  He was often paired with brother Rudy Kay (Jean-Louis Cormier), though he also held the NWA Canadian TV title as a singles competitor.  Other siblings included Leo Burke (Leonce Cormier) and the Beast (Yvon Cormier).

Hercules Ayala, big star in Puerto Rico during the 80s who also did some work for New York and Stampede, dead at 69. I was watching his match with Randy Savage just the other week:

5 time CZW champ Justice Pain dead at 41. Shocking that a man who wrestled in so many deathmatches dies so young, I know...

Carlos Rocha (1927) - Wrestled for the WWF back in the 50s.

Carlos Rocha dead at 93. Meltzer said he was the oldest living name wrestler to have worked in North America, with Cowboy Bob Ellis (91) now the holder of that title.

2017 list held up quite well till recently. And as is usual with wrestlers, more popped out from behind the sofa so the oldest (known to be alive list) looks a bit like:

Vicky Askew (1920) - Vince's mum.

Joe D'orazio (1922) - World of Sport ref, wrestler

Bill Mercer (1926) -  WCCW commentator

"Cowboy" Bob Ellis (1929) -

Joe Cornelius (1929) - British wrestler who retired in 1967. Might be born in 1928 instead.

Samson Burke (1929) - Wrestled briefly in the 1950s, fought Lou Thesz.

Len Rossi (1930) - NWA Hall of Famer who won their tag titles 14 times back when it mattered.

Johnny DeFazio (1930) - former WWWF Junior Heavyweight champ.

John Lees (1930) - the bodybuilder. Apparently a wrestler.

Dave Kidney (1931) - Allegedly held the British Featherweight Title, a title that even British wrestling anoraks struggle to find the lineage for. Might have made it up to get on the BBC.

Tony Marino (1931) - former tag partner of Bruno Sammartino.

Hank Garrett (1931)  - The Minnesota Farm Boy. Quit wrestling to become an actor.

You have to go to 1932 to find folk who will 100% get a DDP QO in Dominic "trained Mick Foley" Denucci, Gene "trained everyone" laBell and Danny "dementia ridden" Hodge.

I think D'Orazio might just get a QO solely because he's the last tie to 50s British wrestling still out there. Dave Kidney is an absolute con man fwiw, that documentary on him from about a decade ago is unintentional comedy of the highest order.

There's a line in the last WON where Meltzer seems to imply that Pat Patterson is suffering from some form of dementia.

OK, now that the Cup has started, we can post some of these.  Rip Oliver, not doing so well it seems. End stage heart failure.

And another one, Killer Tim Brooks, enters hospice care as well with terminal cancer.  A guy might get the wrong idea and think that these professional wrestlers didn't live great lifestyles in the day.  It would be interesting to see some stats on rates of cancer and other organ disease illnesses in this group compared to the general population.

In the 90s and 00s there was a spate of extremely premature wrestling deaths ie 30s-50s. In the last decade or so it has been mostly folk in the 50-70 range, with the deaths under that tending to be the suicides.

To be succinct and blunt, pro-wrestling was swimming in booze and cocaine in the 1980s, and peoples hearts are starting to take the toll in their 60s onwards. We are seeing much the same in rock stars of the same age. There is a specific off shoot of the US opioid crisis, in that even as a choreographed thing, wrestlers get beat down a lot and suffer a lot of chronic pain, so turn to a variety of pain meds. Far too many premature wrestling deaths have been linked to painkiller overdoses (especially with booze) over time weakening the heart, aided by doctors who will sign any prescription as long as money is involved.

Time will tell if the modern kick for wrestlers to prefer health eating, exercise and video games instead produces an uptick in their longevity. But the painkiller thing will always be there.

I mean, get rid of the "these people are only known for showing up on Wiki's longevity lists" and discounting the odd territory star that falls down the back of a sofa, here's the notable pro-wrestlers (almost all QO certs likely) aged 70 or older...

1926 - Bill Mercer

1931 - Tony Marino

1932 - Dominic Denucci, Danny Hodge, Gene LaBell

1934 - Mr Wrestling II

1935 - Jack Lanza, Hisashi Shima

1936 - Eddie Sharkey

1937 - Mark Lewin, Jim Breaks

1938 - Dean Ho, Angela Mosca, Paul Vachon, Jody Hamilton, Ted Turner

1939 - Billy White Wolf, Bill Watts, Bob Armstrong, Jim Herd

1940 - Baron Van Raschke, Iron Sheik, Sweet Daddy Siki, Les Thatcher, Adrian Street, Alan Kilby, Spiros Arion

1941 - Abdullah the Butcher, Pat Patterson, Dory Funk Jr, Gino Brito, Ivan Putski, Thunderbolt Patterson, Kendo Nagasaki

1942 - JJ Dillon, Mil Mascaras, Jimmy Valiant, Ken Patera, Afa, Johnny Saint, Jerry Jarrett, Ole Anderson, Jack Veneno

1943 - Antonio Inoki, Superstar Billy Graham, Bill Dundee

1944 - Jimmy Hart, Terry Funk, Butch, Tiger Jeet Singh, Bobby Duncum Sr, Jim Crockett Jr

1945 - Ronnie Garvin, Sika, Vince McMahon, Pete Doherty, Colone DeBeers

1946 - Gerry Brisco, Tony Garea, David Crockett

1947 - Luke, George Wells, Ax, Teddy Long, Killer Khan, Killer Tim Brooks, Tommy Young

1948 - Black Bart, Sgt Slaughter, Linda McMahon, Carlos Colon, Greg Gagne, Great Kabuki, Tiger Chung Lee

1949 - Ric Flair, Dave and Earl Hebner, Jerry Lawler, Jim Brunzell, Bob Backlund, Stan Hansen, Don Muraco, Mike Adamle, Kevin Sullivan, Paul Orndorff, Zeb Colter, Austin Idol, Iceman King Parsons

I mean, it's not exactly a huge list.

In the "One to watch" category, the ever-reliable Pro Wrestling Insider is reporting that Terry Funk has cancelled a convention appearance this weekend due to the travel with multiple flights from his home in as to New York being a bit much for him, and that at least one other upcoming appearance in Philadelphia should be regarded as "iffy".

Considering he is such a genetic freak 98.2% he is fully recovered and back on the tv and autograph circuit in a few weeks.

He stopped breathing at one point

Scott Steiner is getting heart procedure today according to a few on twitter but it can't be verified so take that with a grain of salt.

Various reports that British heavyweight wrestler Wayne Bridges has died. Fought most of the "greats" as I recall.
