Guest IYG Posted April 4, 2005 While on the subject of lesser known celebs Ralph Edwards is almost 92 years old. Pioneer in the reality show area, that's enough to want him dead.

IYG, I realise that this site is 'Anglo Centric', but I don't think that Vera Lynn is lesser known. In fact to many Britons of a certain vintage she is almost an icon. Never heard of Ralph Edwards though.

Never heard of Ralph Edwards though. Well, usually when a British celeb is mentionede here I just look them up, learn about them and shut my trap because I know absolutely nothing on them. I still think she is a rather obscure person.
Magere Hein 1,400 Posted April 5, 2005 I still think she is a rather obscure person. Again, that rather depends on where you live and how long you lived. My guesstimate is that most Europeans exceeding 40 remember Vera Lynn. I doubt we'll ever meet her, though. regard, Hein

Guest guess guest Posted November 6, 2005 just found this website and I have to say you are rather an unbalanced sick lot. the key to life is to be kind and caring but perhaps you need some psychiatric input. glad I'm normal.
Cerberus 302 Posted November 6, 2005 Dame Vera's Deathlist thread is result number one (out of 19800) on the Blueyonder search, which is how our friend came to revive a six-month-old thread I suppose. Personally I don't think any of us are particularly "unbalanced" or in need of psychiatric help, but what do I know?

maryportfuncity 10,646 Posted November 6, 2005 If you count artistic death I don't think her career has ever recovered from the execrable Dame Vera Lynn in Nashville around the late seventies.

Canadian Paul 97 Posted January 9, 2006 If I'm not mistaken, Vera Lynn appeared at last year's VE ceremonies. Has her health declined since then?
Mortician 2 Posted January 9, 2006 Tried to recommend that we commemorate the 60th anniversary by throwing Vera over the White Cliffs of Dover... Her war effort, or noise pollution, drove up volunteering for the forces by making the front seem less scary than musical halls at home.
Godot 149 Posted January 9, 2006 True. Both sides preferred to listen to Lili Marlene http://history.sandiego.edu/gen/snd/lilymarlene.html Vera was Hitler's secret weapon designed to bore the British into submission.
Godot 149 Posted January 9, 2006 This is an even better site: I particularly like the 6th Panzergrenadier Division version: http://ingeb.org/garb/lmarleen.html Imagine all those panzers revving up on the other side of the channel, armed with their Marlene Dietrich 88s. While all we had was Vera and popgun lyrics like this: "The shepherd will tend his sheep, The valley will bloom again And Jimmy will go to sleep, In his own little room again." Windsor 2,233 Posted January 12, 2006 Interesting discussion. From experience, I can tell you that this sort of thread arguement will actually make people think that you are both arseholes.
