On this day in 1989, Graham Chapman succumbed to cancer at the age of 48.

I remember reading that Cleese and Palin (and possibly some others) "had to be removed from the [hospital] room to deal with their grief". I guess they must have injected them with some really strong sedative that really fucked them up, because none of them have been funny since then.

Today in 1837, Hortense de Beauharnais, stepdaughter of Emperor Napoleon and from 5 June 1806 to 1 July 1810 Queen of Holland, died at age 54. She was the mother of Louis-Napoléon Bonaparte, from 20 December 1848 to 2 December 1852 Emperor Napoleon III.

Although the portrait shows IMO just a vapid girl who married well, it seems she wasn´t altogether talentless. She composed quite a few songs, among which Partant pour la Syrie, from 1852 to 1870 the unofficial French national anthem.

Hein

Four months later Sid died of a heroin overdose (aged 21) and so the case was closed by the police.
