Only American player ever to score five goals in an NHL game, when he was with the Rangers. I’m a San Jose Sharks fan since the team’s founding, and he also has a minor claim to fame in their history too, with an assist on the first goal they ever scored. Interesting thing(s) about the list of 67 NHL players who have scored 5 goals in a game. Up until 2 March 1982, every single player (45 of them) who had accomplished the feat was Canadian-born. Then the next four in succession were from Sweden-USA-Finland-Sweden, Pavelich being the American as noted. Then it was exclusively Canadians making the list again until March 1992. Odd, that little insurrection of non-Canadians there, don’t ya think? Well, rule changes etc seem to have made the 5-goal game a rarity now. Since March 1996 it has happened only 5 times, and not a single one from a Canuck! SirC
