"[bryce] Courtenay has had his own illness to contend with, after being convinced the stomach cancer he had been diagnosed with a year ago had spread.

His doctor has given him the all-clear - for now at least."

Chris Chugg - former bodybuilding champion and head of weightlifting in Tasmania - known to have taken steroids and encouraged his proteges to use illegal substances. Substances might catch up with his heart sooner or later...

Just going over some old names and, as it turns out, Chris Chugg did indeed die of a heart attack in January 2010 at the suspiciously young age of 54:

http://www.qwa.org/n...iew.asp?id=1297

Given that at least two of the weightlifters Chris Chugg coached were banned from the Commonwealth Games due to taking an illicit substance, I think we can safely assume steroids took their toll on this retired body builder....

Closest thing to an obit/mention of Chugg's death a newspaper is this: http://www.territory...heart_week.html

The ABC now has a proper obit for Bell:

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2012-06-14/graeme-bell-dies-at-97/4070692?section=entertainment

Jimmy Little and Jim Stynes probably (just) edge him out in the "Biggest Aussie Death of the Year" stakes though as they contributed a lot to charity. Not sure what Bell did in that regard.

I'm a bit late with this news and I'm sorry if it was allready reported but I just found out that Aussie actor Carl Bleazby died aged 95 a few months ago. I knew him best as the father of Joan 'the freak' Ferguson in Prisoner Cell Block H. I loved that show http://www.tvtonight...rl-bleazby.html

As I live in the UK I'm not as up to speed on australian deaths as those whio live there so again I apologises if its old news for you

Just been on Wikipedia and looked up Don Spencer - Australian, Play School presenter, singer of Fireball XL5 theme tune and Russel Crow's Father-in-Law but it does not say what year he was born.

Could be one to watch if we can find any information on him.

I am not sure he would be that old - perhaps in his early to mid 70s...

EDIT: According to this, he started songwriting at age 20 and sang the theme tune of Fireball XL5 sometime after that. Fireball debuted in 1962 so he was born sometime prior to 1942.

Mark "Chopper" Read (54) - Ex-convict, apparently he only has a few years left in the tank.

Chopper Read is claiming this morning that he has terminal cancer and may only have weeks to live: http://www.abc.net.a...-cancer/3975232

we'll put him on next years deathlist then

If he's still breathing on January 1st then he should be, there would be a fair amount of uk media coverage when he kicked the bucket
