And yet people continue to worship this deity when even if he/she did exist, it's evidence of what a bastard he/she truly is and it's only fear that keeps them going.

I'd fear that evil god if I'd believe in it.

The dad of one of my daughter's friends has been going to church all his life, "works" at the local church - not sure exactly what he does, and gets struck down by some crippling disease in his mid-30s that he now uses a zimmer frame and sometimes a wheelchair to get around. I don't think I've seen him wearing some sort of t-shirt with a bible verse on it. But depsite all that, he believes that "God" is testing his faith.

Ah yes, the Job syndrome. Stupid, but mostly harmless.

UK showbiz journalist Amy Watts dies from cancer, aged 37:

http://www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/news/greater-manchester-news/bury-showbiz-reporter-amy-watts-8785839

A charity campaign to pay for a specialist, promoted by people like Simon Cowell and Kylie Minogue, contributed to her profile (Couldn't these celebrities pay that doctor out of their pockets?).

Also among the dead of the Germanwings crash in the alps, two Iranian journalists:

http://www.theguardian.com/world/iran-blog/2015/mar/25/two-iranian-journalists-among-dead-in-germanwings-flight-4u-9525-crash

Could have been four if there hadn't been some late-minute changes. They came back from covering el clásico, the football match between Real Madrid and FC Barcelona.

BBC journalist Nick Robinson has a rare form of lung cancer:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/health/11443706/Nick-Robinsons-cancer-Timing-lousy-prognosis-good.html

But apparently, the prognosis is good.

Some people on twitter however think that the cancer is "karma" for his coverage of the Scottish independence vote:

Nick Robinson has successful surgery, will start chemotherapy now:

Arnaud de Borchgrave, a Journalist Whose Life Was a Tale Itself, Dies at 88; the son of a Belgian count and a storied foreign correspondent ... twice a best-selling novelist, insisted that he was no saffron-robed Moonie. Mr. de Borchgrave renounced his aristocratic title and became an American citizen in 1957.

"If he could have, Mr. de Borchgrave, who boasted of his prescience, might have drafted his own obituary. According to Harlan Ullman, a fellow columnist at U.P.I., he came close. “He once joked with me,” Dr. Ullman said, “that his tombstone would read: ‘I knew this would happen.’ ”
