rockhopper penguin 2,266 Posted November 28, 2016 How about top 5 xmas films, well why not? Scrooge - the Albert Finney version. Saw it when it came out and had (for the time) some really scary bits which nearly ruined Christmas for me forever. Partial to the Alistair Simm Christmas Carol as well. Well Dickens is what it's all about. White Christmas - schmalzy as hell, dated and trite but it just has to be done. A Wonderful Life - get out the hankies and revel in the true meaning of the season Miracle on 34th Street - either the original or the Dickie Attenborough, like White Christmas another tradition Die Hard - yes it is. Now I have a machine gun, ho, ho ho. Honourable mention for the first Nativity as the list is a bit Yank heavy. Let the debate rage - what have I missed? Then i'll do the 5 worst! msc 18,683 Posted November 28, 2016 Damn, was going to mention Die Hard. "I'm afraid Mr Takagi wont be joining us for the rest of his life."
Handrejka 1,923 Posted November 28, 2016 Was about to say that the Poseidon Adventure is my favourite Christmas film but then realised it's set at New Year so I guess I don't like any Xmas films though the Finney version of Scrooge is tolerable.

rockhopper penguin 2,266 Posted November 28, 2016 Bad Santa The Wild Geese Odessa File Gorky Park Die Hard. Not a traditionalist are we. I suspect Bad Santa 2 will make the original look tolerable.
Handrejka 1,923 Posted November 28, 2016 Bad Santa The Wild Geese Odessa File Gorky Park Die Hard. Gorky Park is good. I'd forgotten about that.
charon 4,943 Posted November 28, 2016 Bad Santa The Wild Geese Odessa File Gorky Park Die Hard. Gorky Park is good. I'd forgotten about that. Soon to be appearing on lists near you, Alexis Sayle, and of course Rev I.M. Jolly and Burt. Great Cast.

charon 4,943 Posted November 28, 2016 A film with Rikki Fulton AND Lee Marvin in it? I need to go track this down on the usual sites. Doh, my bad. It was Lee and not Burt. Sayle is good, Fulton is excellent as a KGB bod. Yeah, I know. The series of books is worth a read too, even if by an imperialist. Paul.....not that good.... msc 18,683 Posted November 28, 2016 I like it. A film about Jimmy Stewart being driven to suicide by being surrounded by arseholes, just like Christmas with the inlaws. The famous coda is somewhat less so, however. If you really want to see it, its on Film Four this Friday.

charon 4,943 Posted November 28, 2016 Dammit, I KNOW it was Marvin, but I keep seeing Lancaster in the woods with the mink. Cunt. What else have I remembered? Scotland is Free? America collapsed under Hilary ? Smoking is good for you?

The Mad Hatter 1,093 Posted November 28, 2016 I've never seen 'It's a wonderful life' should I look out for it? No, it's awful. calling it terrible is a bit harsh. I know its not the masterpiece its made out to be but its still solid.

Deathray 2,944 Posted November 29, 2016 As we have a thread for 'seen any good movies' Thought I'd start up a thread about 'good' movies you've never seen, or wished you had the time or made the effort to go and see. I have never seen Bambi. I've been told it's a good movie (in a cartoonish sort of way, I suppose). No doubt more alleged good movies to follow. You ever get round to watching Bambi, it's well worth it.

I really dislike the modern styles of animation, they make everything so ugly.
CarolAnn 926 Posted November 29, 2016 My favorite petri dish and I went to see Moana on Sunday. It could have been about 30 minutes shorter. Definitely not one of Disney's best although the chicken is hilarious. Probably worth one sit through for the kids in your life, but when it comes out on DVD/BluRay you are going to want to open a vein.

Cast includes Brian Dennehy , Alexei Sayle, Ian Bannen, Richard Griffith and Ian McDiarmid. Halfway through as we about to have some downtime. Its great.
